Some of the hurt-your-eyes speedster interior photos shared recently have emboldened me to admit my own sacrilege: Swapping out a perfectly normal Nardi knock-off for a non-period steering wheel. The inexpensive swap checked several boxes for me:

  • more comfortable grip: softer and over 1/8 inch larger grip diameter, more like my daily driver
  • one fewer redundant and inaccurate Porsche brands on the car
  • better integrated with the rest of the black interior

I got lucky: I knew I didn't want a wheel any deeper than the Nardi, so I shopped for as flat a wheel as I could find in a style and price I liked. The lucky part was that the adapter I hadn't even known I needed (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B08L396M5B ) is only a half-inch deep, leaving the overall depth of the new wheel almost exactly equal to the depth of the Nardi clone. The adapter fixes both of the differences between the old and new six-bolt mounting circles: The Nardi is a few millimeters larger bolt circle, and has bolts at odd hours of the clock, where many other wheels have 2.75 inch = 70mm bolt circle and bolts at even hours of the clock.

I haven't decided how to decorate the hub if not a Porsche crest. For now I just covered the aftermarket wheel's green logo with black until spray paint season comes around again.

Now just hoping that the ghost of Max Hoffman doesn't strike me down for my heresy.

@IaM-Ray @Michael Pickett Not like I would know but aren't Momos usually the six bolt circle like the one I chose, rather than five? I like the look of Rod's, and the understated subdued Porsche crest, but in the aisle of ebay I was shopping all the models similar to his were a deeper dish and I wanted to stay flat.

Now you have me doubting myself. My Momo definitely had 6 bolts, so now I'm not as sure.
