I just got my first CMC widebody about 2 weeks ago. The PO titled it as and '89 VW 55 porsche in TX.

GA, where I live, isn't going for that. The only bright side is that I think the original pan VIN was used on that TX title. If I can find the VIN for an inspection officer the GA DMV is willing to give me a 1970 VW title for it.

The bad news is that I can't find the VIN. I have found the acces panel and the shift linkage. That wasn't easy, I hope I can get the carpet back the way it was.

Now I have to find the stamped pan number. Is it passenger side or driver? How far from the edge of the shifter acces hole is it? Any pics or diagrams or ????? I'm trying to find it without turning the back seat into swiss cheese with holes.

Found it!!!!

I'm surprised no one has made up a VIN plate and attached it under the windshield for ease.

It's north of the access opening for the the shift rod to trans connection. You just need to peel back the carpet to gain access. The numbers run driver side to passenger side. You may need to wire brush it to see them if its painted with heavy coats of paint.
