I just found out (almost the hard way) that when my brake lights are active you cannot see the turn signal flash. It appears that there is a two stage bulb (1016) inserted and I was wondering if it should only be a one stage whereas it would flash while the other brake light is active. It has the teardrop style light and the outside bulb is set up for turn signal and brake light. Or, are these completely hooked up incorrectly and the inside should be the brake light and the outside be for the turn signal???

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Another thing you might want to check on the dual filament bulb are whether both filaments are lighting up with equal light. I noticed that when my driving lights were on, my brake lights on one side did not come on. I took the covers off and found that the brake light was lighting but it was just very dim. I replaced with a new dual filament bulb and it solved it.

i have bee hives (although i think tear drops have two bulbs too).

when i did my wiring harness i encountered the same prediciment - essentially 4 lights (per side), brake, turn and running lights.

i decided to wire them like this:

the dual filliment bulbs i used have 2 brightness filliments.

bright outer one used for brakes
bright inner one used for brakes
dim outer one used for running lights
dim inner one used for turn signals

not ideal, but i decided i wanted as much brake lighting on the back of the car as possible. i also added a 3rd brake light (LED) and soon will be adding a 4th (stay tuned for another DIY thread). (It`s cooler than it sounds)
I swapped out the wires so the inner socket acted as the brake light as it is set up for a mono filament bulb. The outer socket is running the running light and brake light. Was working sweet and then the left turn signal went dead. Checked all bulbs, fuses and grounds and all seem ok.

I wonder if my flasher unit just coincidently went haywire.
That would be my bet too Gord. I put European rear teardrop lenses on my IM and had to pull the sockets out and switch some wiring around to make it work correctly, the Brake light and running lights are one dual filament bulb, then I use a single for my turn Signal light.

I too have had some issues with bad connection playing up on my car, turned out the usual problem is in the turn signal wiring that comes off my steering column
