Mine had this problem. I disconnected the 3 wires off the brake switch and touched them together to see if the brake light would go on. It did, so it proved that the problem was the swith. I ordered 2 of them, (a spare) $5.00 each. Took 5 minutes to change and works like a charm.

Check first to make sure a wire didn't come off the switch either. You need to crawl under the car and the switch is on the master cylinder on the back side of the brake pedal.
Also make certain the the contactor is installed correctly into the light bulb socket. My passenger side stop and signal lights did not work properly. The seller claimed that he did not have the correct bulb installed (sic). It turned out that the contact was installed 180 degress out of phase (it is slotted and can be installed two ways). When I removed it by pushing it from the inside and turned it around, my problems went away. The spade type socket is designed so that the bulb can only seat correctly one way, so if the contact is backwards, these lights will not work correctly. Make certain to use double filament bulbs for stop and signal functions.
Great.....never mind JPH
I don't see any reason not to upgrade the brake switch to a petal mounted mechanical switch, like Painless sells.

Or just ,wire it in as a back up. for saftey sake .

I also like a trick Cadilac did with optial fiber, that lets you see the the rear lights from the rear veiw mirror.
They run 2 Optical cables from the back side of the lights back into the upper rear of the cab.
If you thought you had a bulb out,you can just tap the brake petal and look in the rear veiw.
