I don't have a speedster yet, but been looking like crazy. Hoping to get one soon! Anyways, anybody know anything about VW stroker motors, the one I looking into is a 2007cc. Are these better than a regular motor? Also, are the replicas better of with front disc brakes and how much does it cost to covert to discs? Thanks for any reply.

Provided you use quality parts and build with care a 2007 cc is a wonderful street motor; powerful, torquey and will live a long life (provided, of course, you don't abuse it). Front disc brakes are a worthwhile addition to these cars; due to their light weight you really don't need rear discs. Depending on the kit and configuration you buy they're in the range of $350.00 to $500.00 approx.
Thxs Ricardo,
Does that mean the stroker motors are not as durable as the other motors? Besides going fast or driving it "hard", what would you consider abuse to this particular or other engines? Also, someone told me that the mid 90's VS were made heavier as in more/thicker layer of fiberglass compared to the current bodies, is that true? And if it is, is there a performance issue?
The quality of the build, that is to say the components and the skill of the builder has a great deal to do with the longevity of the engine. In other words, buy from a builder who has a good reputation and with whom you can clearly communicate your driving needs.

Jake Raby of Massive type IV used to tout the 2007cc as a really nice engine with its 78mm stroker crank. (Jake no longer builds Type 1 engines) One this size, well built, would probably be a nice running, good performing engine. This size does not seem to be nearly as popular as the 2110cc which has many advocates on this website. Either one, nicely built, would probably be a great choice. JMHO.
Hoss
Bruce; as Hoss says a 2007 or a 2110 engine are very good ones; due to the thickness of the 90.5 mm cylinders. There are some new 92 mm thickwall cylinders which you could use with the same stroke crank; either 78 mm or 82 mm for increased displacement. Personally I wouldn't use pistons larger than 90.5 mm. Obviously, when I mean abuse I mean lugging the engine (that's driving in a higher gear than needed) or revving the hell out of it (and I've seen people capable of destroying anything!). It doesn't mean you can't drive it fast or step on it every once in a while since that's what they're made for but obviously within reason. With respect to the fiberglass bodies; I haven't heard anything on VS bodies. I know for a fact that CMC's are thicker than VS's around the wheelwells so that probably means a thicker construction overall; maybe FiberFabs and older Intermecs are like that too. I've had my VS for three years (I ordered it new) and it's holding up very well so I'd say they're acceptable for most except the most discriminating customers.
