Some stitching on 'stressed' corners of my vinyl soft top (VS) is unraveling and needs attention.  I was fortunate to find a young man in town who makes a living with an industrial sewing machine primarily fabricating boat covers... but also an occasional vehicle tonneau

The two metal bows of my top were encased in a vinyl 'sheath' glued to the underside of the top...The adhesion has given up the task (old age?) I've tried re-cementing it with Gorilla Glue without success...so much for "The Toughest Jobs On Planet Earth"

Any suggestions?...How about the vinyl adhesive HH-66?...They've got a very convincing video.

It's late here (23:30) but tomorrow I'll find out what I have for 3M weatherstrip adhesive.  I just used it to re-glue a few inches of Velcro onto my vinyl tonneau cover before heading to Lime Rock and it's holding like Iron.  I can tell you.....if you get it on your skin, it's a major PITA to get it off, so it must be pretty good stuff.

Stay tuned.

Hey......could your boat top stitcher just stich the top bow sheathes to the top as mine are?   Would seem like an easy (inexpensive) job.

Oh!  And your 912e is the bomb - VERY nice car, Carl!

OK, Carl.....The stuf I used is 3M 08008 Black Super Weatherstrip and Gasket Adhesive

Available at NAPA, but when I bought mine they had to find it in a NAPA store out in East Zamboogie or something.  Took a day to get it to a local store.

3M also has a quart can of general purpose adhesive release agent.  Comes in pretty handy to get the stuff OFF when you want to.

Gordon,

Yea, I thought of having the sheaths stitched in but unless the exposed stitching is super straight without wiggles and hesitations it would look like crap!...and handling that expanse and vinyl thickness is a clumsy PITA especially under a 'running foot' commercial machine.

And thanks for the compliment on my pumpkin orange 912...but  LennyC has the makings of a legitimate blood pumping BOMB tucked into the corner of his garage....a dusty 912, and in the corner, bolted up to an engine stand, is a 6cyl Suby just biding its time!!!

I hope Lenny invites me over for some wrenching experience when he gets around to it...I love watching people who know what the hell they're doing!
