Well my axle play is still there with new bearings and a new stub axle so the little bit of play that's there will stay there for now.
I had pulled the engine to seal up some leaks before Carlisle just in case the EPA shows up. The motor is back in and has been running fine until I tried to fine tune the carbs and the popping in the exhaust was now an added feature. I pulled the idle jets, mains and removed the mixture screws to clean it all up. The three four side were removed with no problem but the one two side screws came out but the springs, washers and orings stayed behind.
I was able to retrieve the wayward parts and installed all new orings and the cars runs fine now and believe the orings were allowing air to bleed by for awhile now as adjusting that side was not as precise as the other side.
Adjusting now has been simplified by using my quarter inch drive set with the socket marked off at zero and ninety on the socket and now I'm able to turn the socket and keep track of the number of turns on the screw while viewing with a light.
