The market seems to be focused on Speedsters - particularly pan-based - at the moment. Coupes and Spyders don't seem to be pulling in as much.

My Spyders are actually still doing really well both auction and private sales. Last 3 auctions were 64k-81k and last several private sales were all in the 65- 75k range. Other brand Spyders have not been doing as much though, you are correct...
Vintage Motorcar resellers are killing it though. Crazy money for "right now" buys.
This year on BaT, Spyders with proper build and brand have been selling in the $50s-$60sK range, with some outliers above and below.
I'm on the site just about every day in the mornings, and I frequently see that when a seller fails to post starting and driving videos, the car has a harder time getting off the mark. Commenters start piling on about "where are the videos?", and then a wet blanket descends. Maybe he'll get some posted before the bidding is over.
I'm with @DannyP -- I'm thinking this one is not going to sell today.
I agree. If the reserve is 40 or 45, it might go that high, but somehow I doubt it.

So if this is number 1, it is the personal car of Andy Shouse, owner of SoCal Imports.
25 minutes to go at $27,250.
I counted over 10 different bidders, so perhaps there could be a rush at the end (which we all know is typical for BaT auctions.)
Interesting if belongs to Andy. Andy put together the kits for my Wide 5 and disc brake conversion on my Spyder. Super nice guy in all of the correspondence I had with him.
Andy WAS Stuttgart Spyders. He got Greg's old molds and jigs when Greg moved production from Mexico to the USA. I think maybe a dozen or so cars/kits were built.
@DannyP -- you and I might be wrong at this pace of bidding!

That's a steal, in my opinion. The car is in great shape.

On a BaT auction-related note, there are currently four 356 replicas on bid. One, however, is languishing at $10k, while the other three are much higher.
Is it because of the engine size?
Edit: went back and read the commentaries >> there appears to be some talk about the wheels not centered in the wells. Hmmm...
I think people just need to get over the wheel-centered thing. Some older cars have it worse than others, and some don't have it at all. Some of it is camera angle.
But the high rear fender Spyders really bug me now. So I get it about the Speedster wheels.
I think this car was well bought. Also well sold as it is certainly at least 15 years old, and probably cost way less than $40k to build. A good deal for both parties.

Now Dan, I'm new to the Spyder world, and this "high rear fender" comment has got me wondering about my beloved toy...am I in the less favored camp? Am I second-class??? 😆
My first car was a 2002 Vintage. The 2016 car I have now has the modified low-fender rear clamshell, which also has a nice volute in the more-correct license light area. Which goes along with the more-correct license light.
If the rear clam bothers you, I'm sorry for pointing it out. It doesn't bother me if other cars have it, I'm only happy mine doesn't.

The seller jumped back on with pictures of the wheel wells without the camera angle. Funny that that one isn’t getting the action. I’m with you. Engine size, and age.
One weird thing: there’s 850 live auctions on BaT right now. I’ve never seen that many. A FoaF is selling his Radical and there’s THREE of those on offer right now fer crissakes.
ps: There’s also a stunning low mile 968 on offer that I think will go for easy money. It’s dk grey/light grey. Very posh, but the wilder colors seem to do better on BaT than the more sedate ones. This one also has no options.

Kind of strange. The selling dealer is SoCal Speedster. And then there’s this:
“Acquired by the seller in 2023, this 550 Spyder replica is now offered with a clean California title in the name of the seller’s company.”
Maybe Andy bought it back?

Personally, I kind of like the original Beck clamshell. Maybe it’s just because I’m used to it. And, FWIW, if you saw 3-4 real 550s side by side, no two of them would be exactly alike.
That is a nice car...at least $ 10K short in money. The seller was unresponsive and that killed the first few days. If it had started this AM in the $ 35K range it would likely have sold in the $ 55K range !

Yeah, I think the low price was mostly due to the unanswered questions. And lack of a starting/driving video. From the replies the seller did make, I get the idea he’s not going to lose any sleep over it.

I don't believe there is any relationship between SoCal Speedster and Andy's company SoCal Imports if that is what you're suggesting.

Yes, I’ve interacted with you there before. I went there this morning after this correspondence and found a side shot of your car. You’ll see my comment on your photo. I see what you mean about lower hips. ;-)
Anand bought one of six (IIRC) Spyder bodies built by CMI. The CMI Spyder replicates the original proportions of the Spyder but the tail was still off. Here is an original Spyder, chassis 550-073:
And here is Anand's Spyder:
He also had the wheel wells reshaped to replicate the shape of the original chassis.
