Excellent, one mechanic told me this morning that he needs to pull the motor so im not sure if he is the proper contestant for this task. Will keep checking and see if this Deland mechanic replies as well. There seems to be some gouging in this town on things. I paid $250 to hook up cylinder gauge but didnt really know what that entailed so it seemed fair. $250 to set valves and change oil same trip, $498 total.

That is preposterous! And you’re not getting results either!

"which is about $15k more than the jps speedster of similar specs speedster."

Just a quick note about the above statement to clarify a few things:  a JPS speedster, even the tube chassis version that are out of my old Brazil molds/jigs, do not begin to compare with our new Speedster.  Gen 2 Beck Speedsters feature: A-arm front suspension, rack and pinion steering, IRS rear suspension, 5 speed Subaru gearbox, 4 wheel discs, real German wool restoration carpet, real top quality leather, real German Haartz cloth top material, USDM motor with stock ECU/electronic throttle/OBD-II diagnostics, integrated and hidden AC components, and the best cooling system in the industry.  Just apples to oranges comparison...

As for the '59 D treatment with roll ups, my only piece of advise with them is that before you order, experience it...  make sure 1st hand that it is  doing what you expect.  These things can be really hard to seal up and get close to what a modern car does in that department for a variety of reasons.  Some that can be addressed and others that are simply "nature of the beast".

Regardless of what direction you decide, good luck and have fun.

@chines1 thanks for the explanation. So, your beck build of the sube with ac and a couple things like two mirrors, black wheels with moon center or something that would look right, not too much in the side trim, bumper trim, trying to look like this pic below seems to come in around 58-59k? What is the timeline, down payment, subsequent payments over the 28 months generally speaking? Can you do the blacked out trim stuff? If i forego the convertible D plan and stick with speedster basic styles. https://www.vintagemotorcarsin...grey-outlaw-gallery/

Just because Carey doesn’t have a lot of spare time here’s the page you probably want to look at http://www.beckspeedster.com/pricesbrochurepdfs.html

It has the build sheet with options and a timeline for payments. Speedster builds for Carey are about 24-30 months out. Pay as you go with him while driving your current Speedster. Sell your current one before you take delivery of the new one. Best of both worlds.

I bought stainless steel button head (uses hex allen wrench) cooling tin screws.  It was actually fun replacing the knurly rusted OEM steel ones.  Looks great.  I didn't remove the engine.

I'm in FL but 7.5 hrs away (Destin) - there are other Speedster owners nearer to you.  Only tin that I see would be troublesome is the piece either side that gets installed before the heads are installed.  Unless you have oil leaks - or need a clutch, I wouldn't pull engine.

@John Bungen yes, the custom trim/wheels (powdercoated) is easy.

Yes, that spec Suby build would be in the $56-57K range.

Lead times are going up constantly as we're still selling 3-4 cars a week and only shipping 1 per week, so currently 2.5 years is a good estimation.

Our payments happen at actual milestones and also as required by EPA (for drivetrain).  Initial deposit (varies with model but Speedster is $5k), the balance of your body package when it is coming out of the mold, mechanicals (this has a payment to us and then payment(s) to other vendors as well),  and then final payment prior to shipment.  Time from deposit to 1st progress payment is slightly over a year.  The rest are split pretty evenly over the last 1/2 of the build.
