I'm. thinking of getting a blue tooth one for my Subaru Turbo engine in my IM. 2005 Legacy GT. Have any of you guys used them with success? I have a check engine light on. Car is running fine. Henry said to use the kill switch and it may reset itself. So far no luck. Should I disconnect the battery and then reconnect it?

Someone here had bought one and suggested it on the list.
Disconnected battery. Reconnected and light is gone. I'll drive around to see if it pops back up again. I still may snag one of those OBD readers.

Marty: Get the OBD II reader. It almost doesn’t care which one, if it mates to your Smaht Fone. All you want to know is what the hell is the code it is throwing and whether you can clear it from your reader (get one that offers this clearing function).
That, plus a sheet of Subaru potential codes, is all you’ll need.

If I was in your shoes, I'd talk to Henry and buy the make/model that he suggests. There are lots of choices online and lots of prices.
The reader plus Google will tell you what you need to know. My TD throws a code because it's looking for a signal from the automatic transmission that was in the donor car. Sort of an automotive version of phantom limb syndrome. But the other codes are more relevant. OBD is a good tool, all you need to do is use it.
ELM327 on Amazon. $20. Just buy one. Every person should have one, even just for your daily driver. I've had mine for years. It is smaller than a pack of smokes.
True story:
One year on the Carlisle caravan, John Eastman's(SAS/SAW) car threw a code. I happened to have my bluetooth reader in my Spyder, so we read the code and cleared it. It came back on but was just the vehicle speed sensor, the wire had come off the sensor. He was able to keep driving because that code is not a major problem. Often they are minor.
I bought a Scantool OBDLink MX a few years ago, and really liked it. I say liked it because I can't find it... We moved last year, and I haven't found it yet 
I think most require software that you have to buy as well if you want to clear the codes... and if your iOs you might have less choice.

Most of those that I've looked at allow you to clear most codes without additional software. Danny's ELM327 from VGate certainly does.
The free app Torque for Android allows clearing of codes. They have a pay app with no ads as well. I've had my ELM327 for about ten years and have cleared many, many codes. No paid app, ever.
