Has anyone heard of Bolder speedsters?
I believe that they're a dealer for Special Edition, who is the maker of the Beck. Where are you located? SE is in Northeastern Indiana.
Best to do a search here, plenty to read.
That bad huh, the guy started out at 27k,were down to 20k. needs clutch. Guess you know better than I
Thanks clock,Im out.

Yeah, Boulder Speedsters is not exactly highly regarded here.
Oops, left out the fact that Special Edition severed ties with them quite a while ago.
Boulder used a company called Pro Street Performance to build their few Subaru conversions. The only thing this car has going for it is that the price is equivalent to a kit these days, so it could be a basket-case and as long as you knew that going in you would still be in good shape as you'd have the engine, adapters, exhaust, trans, tank, wiring, etc... Actually let me rephrase that, chances are it IS a basket case and will need gone over stem to stern, BUT all the parts will be there to finish it correctly. :)

JPS is offering a Subaru option in a back-motor configuration. So if watercooled is what turns your crank, you might investigate.
Is anyone else besides SAS (and apparantly Bolder) doing Subaru?

David, check out my thread under Vendor Specific called "interested in following new build" Plus, Peter Choy took delivery of a Custom Beck built at Special Edition in Bremen, IN. Subaru Wasserboxers are the new Type-4's

You've got THAT right.....

We do Subaru in several configurations that include 2.2L, 2.5L, 2.0T. So far most have been with standalone engine management but currently we are finishing the newest offering with stock ECU and electronic throttle.

Wasserboxers are not the new Type IV.
The Type IV is its own thing. No electronics unless you add 'em, and no need for that pesky coolant stuff. Although several folks here love their Subaru engines, I must stick up for the virtues of the old air-cooled engines. Somebody has to.
If Carey says all the bits are there to make a decent runner out of that Subaru job, I suppose there's hope for it. Still ... I'm just sayin' ...

Cory, I love air cooled. But, WC is for guys like me that are not so good in the fiddling department. I think there is room for both strategies and that WC will keep the hobby open to a wider variety of folks. It will also give the builders a larger portfolio.
Love the way you think Martey. I decided to give this (basket-case as Carey described earlier), another shot. Going back to check it out with a (hired gun) from one of the best fabrication shops in my area. I'll check it out and if this guy gives me the thumbs up I'll give it a shot. I'll keep you posted.

Just read where Subaru is coming out with a 2.0 boxer of 148 Hp next year to replace the 2.5. Thank you Fed mileage requirements. Looks like the turbo will be the only performance model from here forward.
If installed correctly (doesn't overheat, shifts fine going down the road, CPU interface worked out), price doesn't sounds out of line. Cosmetics and details can be cleaned up. Post some pictures.
Toyota coming out with a rear drive Subaru powered sport coupe in 2012 currently called the FT-86. (Might appear under SCION name plate). Engine is the new 2L direct injection combined with port injection - giving 30% better gas mileage than prior Subaru engines --- with a 6 speed manual or automatic. Reported price target $20-25K.

The Scion FR-S version of the FT-86 is the better looking of the two. But I think the key to success will be if they can keep the weight and price down. They need 3200 lbs for the same power to weight ratio as the original AE86, but there is a big difference driving a 3200 lb car compared to a 2300 lb car. Hopefully they'll get their final weight to about 2700 lbs. But as far as price, I bet it's on the high end of that range.
