I'll second Bob's suggestion.
Do the following:
1. take out the hood grill (four bolts)
2. undo the nut that holds the pin for the locking mechanism. (visible at the bottom of the grill opening)
3. with that undone you should be able to push out the bolt and open the engine hood.
Hope that helps
Ron
p.s. Been there, done that....
Thanks everyone. Unfortunately I have a luggage rack on the back of my Speedster and it's bolted throug the grill. My grill is held in with 4 screws but there is no sign of a bolt or latch mechanism in the grill area. I think I'm going to need to go in thru the underneath of the engine. Bummer. Any other suggestions. I've written to Henry at IM, but no reply yet.

As a follow up, I did hear from Henry this morning. It was nice of him to take the time to respond. Here is his comment on my problem, and what I had decided was the only method to get at the latch.
Thanks to everyone for their input.
Hi Bruce:
Good to hear from you.
That is a problem! I think you will need to remove one of the engine fill panels from under the car and reach up to unlock the rear deck manually.
Sorry!

Custom building one dream at a time.

Hopefully Henry's (or maybe one of his crew as it seems he doesn't know about it) anticipated this: my car is a 2001 IM. There's no way to the latch through the grill BUT crawling under the car and looking up revealed an approx. 1" hole through the fiberglass that will allow a fairly long tool to work the lever of the latch and pop the hood open. (I'm talking about the engine compartment).

The hole is beefed up with resin as though that is it's purpose. In fact I can't imagine any other purpose.

Hopefully you've got the same setup. It's not easy to see at first on mine with all the exhaust piing in the way. I'd never seen it until running out to my car to see if I could help you.

Even with the hole I like the idea of an auxilliary release at both ends, hidden. It's on my list of things to do.
