I'm not too swift on this stuff so is there any LED idiot lights that are super bright that would almost blind me if they came on to tell me that i have a problem. I'm sure someone out there has some good info and sources for this. i would be willing to drill up to two 1/2" holes in my dash just below the center gauge to have this feature. One Red and one Blue?..........Bruce

George Brown had IM install an auditory alarm in his car should there be an oil pressure problem. I don't know how well it worked.
I rode in George Brown's last Roadster.
That must have been one hell of a loud alarm because his exhaust was, too.
Bruce: Why not just wire in a couple of the (extra) lights on the multi-gauge in parallel with OIL and ALT on your tach. Those in a horizontal line across the middle of the gauge are all about 4 times bigger than those puny little things on the bottom of the tach. I've often thought of doing that, myself!

That is so Intermecannica (Did I spell that right?).

Gordon, I did that, but used those lights to monitor the two cooling fans I've got.
The stock bulbs in those sockets are no brighter than the standard warning lights on the tach, and barely visible in daylight. They do look cool at night, though.
There are probably brighter bulbs or LED's you could use, if you actually want to see them during the day.
Or, maybe put the warning lights in parallel with a relay that would turn on the windshield wipers - which aren't too useful for anything else.
I replaced my gauge light bulbs with these and they work well.

Follow the link to their web... They sell many light bulbs at what appear to be reasonable prices for VW. The porsche marketed ones seem to be little more expensive... But seem to be the same bulb. Go figure!
Bruce, when I owned my IM for the first time I installed a large red light, which started out as a tach shift light, and wired it to my oil pressure sending unit.
It didn't look all that great, but it sure got my attention when it came on. Very visible.

I did that, now the small oil light on the bottom with the gen light illuminates and also the large red one on the left side of the combi gauge. The large one is much easier to see and it doesn't hurt to have two lights go on for such an important function. It didn't cost a cent to do, just piggybacked the large light on the back of the small one. It wasn't being used anyway and already had a pigtail lead on it dangling.
Manny....Thank YOU! Your link came up with a brilliant suggestion !!!!
Connecting a piezoelectric buzzer/alarm in parallel with the oil pressure switch and the B+ from the Alternator. The actual connections can be made up under the dash.
Buy a Piezo Audio Signal made by Philmore #PS2 (6-28 volt, AC/DC, 80 to 95 dBa)
This alarm is not polarity specific. This is important because it has to work with voltage going into it from both sources (oil light and gen light) Merely connect one side of the alarm to the terminal of the Gen. light on your gauge and the other wire from the alarm to the terminal of your oil press. light. You'll know the system is working every time you start your engine. While driving, if there is a problem with either your Gen./Alt or your oil pressure, the alarm will remind you to look at your idiot lights to see which one is the problem. I wired this alarm up on a VW instrument cluster I had put away just to make sure is works. It does......Bruce
