Nice find - Does not appear to be butchered at all -- it is a good buy at $6500. For $10k you'd have a car like you wanted it. Gel coat appears fine in photo - these were designed not to be painted (although you can of course). If pictures are accurate - there's $12k worth of parts.
A complete stock configuration speedster kit on a shortened rollng chassis, disc brakes, trans included, engine with Weber's, chrome wheels, doors,body fit and finish appear to be in very good condition and more.
There are individules that would agree this speedster project is a far cry from said "pile of crap".
It is in fact, a great deal for a first speedster owner/builder.
To further add, there are those that don't have the funds to buy a high dollar turn key.
For "the car guy" buy it, finish it and walk away with a "few large" in your pocket.
There is also the unique pride in knowing each and every nut and bolt, wire connection and most importantly being able to do their own repairs, adjustments and upgrades.
There is nothing like being able to share valuable speedster related knowledge ....after all, that's what this forum is about!

Not a bad deal. Would be nice to know what is missing. It is a new kit not cut up yet.
But it doesn't have an automatic transmission.

That is a very good deal. It appears that most of the more challenging aspects of the build have been completed. Lets see if only I had the time, space and the money.

I bought it with the intention of finishing it to sell and maybe pay for some of my time (ala ALAN).
OR...
Maybe I'll sell my honda and use a Speedster for a daily driver!
For now, I'm just going to concentrate on a clean, correct build.
So far,I've ordered engine parts to build a 2 litre type 1.
Building the car is the fun part. The real challenge is moving garage toys around enough to have the room to build. I need to sell one of my Harleys.

Congrats Greg! I was watching the auction and I'm so glad one of our fellow members snatched it!
Terry; I also saw the ebay auction you mentioned. The guy "lowered" the buy it now price from 40K to $29,999.00 (what a deal!!)....This guy is either nuts or misinformed in trying to get 30k for a car that can be had for 20K directly from the manufacturer.
Too many toys, too little time :>)
