I did a search on "hardtop" and there is a lot of fine information there and some great photos. Although most of the threads are very old, it's a shame they get closed to further comments and I can't ask this question in one of those threads as a lot of people might be interested in the photos and info that they might never see.

I have never seen a Super Wide Body with a hardtop and doubt it's ever been built although i saw one on a flared body. Vintage would be the only possibility I believe and like the regular bodies, would need the car there to fit properly.

The question is:

Are the interior dimensions (inside a hardtop/tub) the same for the classic body and the super wide an if so has anyone ever seen one in person or online with a hardtop? Is there a reason it just wouldn't look right?

Google doesn't know all at least as far back as I looked through pages....

Interior dimensions are the same - since same VW pan is used.  It's just that you can fit 10" slicks on the back.  I think anyone that could build a Speedster kit could install the hard top to their car.  It would take multiple fitting, sanding and adjusting attempts.  Rusty Tubs in NV has 2 versions of hard top.  One for Kit cars that they say is 3-4" longer to accommodate possible different placement of the windshield.  Price is like $1295 but crating is $125 plus I suspect shipping is $400 extra (or more).  I think a hardtop with the "Gurney bubble" on top and a raised LED 3rd brake light would look great on a super wide body.  Maybe even add gull wing opening side curtains like the old MB 300 SL.

I am having a hard top made for my super widebody now - here are pics from Kirk I received yesterday - granted not great pics but you get the idea.

Thank you!

Can you confirm it's the same size as a regular body speedster? Looks great so far, please post up some final pics when you get her back.

Hi Scott- I saw your car when I went to visit Vintage last week- it looks great, much better than the pictures show!

That's great to hear. I have yet to see the car in person. Bought from a dealer in Santa Barbara. Sent right to vintage for hard top bumpers etc.   Been trying to be patient. Not an easy task.

Scott, that jogged my memory that we had spoken via private message but I forgot you were going to get a hardtop for it. You are going to have one of the nicest Speedsters going with that Mendeola suspension kit and a hardtop on a Superwide.

Can't wait to see it all put together and I would have trouble being patient as well.
