Came across an Australian company, while cruising through SAMBA, that sells superchargers for 1600 to 1800 engines.

Their photo album had a photo of one of their superchargers installed in a 356 replica.

No, seriously-- this is something a corn-fed returning Korean War fly-boy might have done in the 60s. The whole thing isn't about the power (his dyno chart doesn't have it breaking 100 hp), it's about the "cool". A turbo is way more efficient, but the plumbing on one looks very "modern". The plumbing on this thing looks very rudimentary, in a well-executed way.

If I was starting over, I'd look pretty hard at building a stout 8-ish:1 1776 and bolting one of these bad-boys on it. A nice Vintage Speed or Sidewinder exhaust, a side-draft Dellorto, a cast-iron Bosch distributor, and you'd be the coolest dude at the show.

AMR500 supercharger is a Subaru part. That alone should be disqualifying....

My god--$150?!

I'm with Stan. This looks like too much fun.

And I've got three extra Soob intake manifolds on hand. I once made a Harley Zenith carb work as well as a Holley 2300 just to prove a point years ago on a Corvair engine. Lower pic of three. The point being, the sidedraft Zenith carb is tiny and could easily be mounted beside the blower....ooooh !

Alan, that's a great looking buggy.

I still haven't been able to go look at the dune buggy.  It's a 2 hour drive each way and there doesn't seem to be an end to this snow and cold weather........AND IT'S NOT EVEN WINTER YET!

I wonder how the price of this supercharger kit would compare to the build price of a larger non-boosted engine.

I read (somewhere on the internet) that it's not hard to get 80 (wheel) horsepower (around 95 hp at the crank) with this supercharger on a total stock 1600.  That would probably be around the same hp as a mild 1914cc.

The only addition they recommend is a full flow filter and external oil cooler.

The price is $2700 (AUS) for the full kit (called the half kit for some reason).

That's $2023 US and $2655 CAN + shipping.
