Tach on my cmc speedster

Good morning everyone. Does anyone know an easy way to change the tach. in my 56 cmc speedster? I can barely get my hands under there. Do i have to take the stearing colmn off? If somebody knows please respond.

Unless someone ran short wires to the tach, you can usually wiggle your hand up under the dash to remove the two tach thumb screws, then pull the tach forawrd out of the dash to acccess the wiring.
I always remove the steering wheel from the column, to lower the column itself it will hang up on the firewall opening. ~Alan
