I am confused as to how the taillights are set up on a 356 Speedster. One person told me that the inside light is running light and the outside light is brake and turn signal. Another person said the inside light is brake and running light and the outside light is turn signal only.

Any feedback on this?

The outside light is the dual-filament bulb with two contacts on it. It's brakes and running lights on my car, since it sits in a bigger reflector.
The inside light is the turn signal (in my car), and is only a single filament.
I have red lenses. Some folks will wire their cars differently, usually because of red and amber lenses, local laws or personal tastes.
If it's wired like mine, there are going to be hot wires into one side or the other, which then pass to the opposite side of the car and terminate. Both bezels get grounded.
John - FWIW, you can use the same tear-drop tail-light housing for either;

1. Red lenses - USA (outer dual-filament bulb brake/running, inner single-filament bulb for turn signal)

2. Amber/red lenses - Euro (outer single-filament bulb for turn signal, inner dual-filament bulb for brake/running).

It a simple process to reverse the bulb socket position in the housing for either configuration.
