I know, I know... it's not a VW event, and there aren't any Speedsters there... BUT!

I'm heading out to Norwalk Raceway Park for the weekend of August 14-15th for the 11th annual Diamond Star Motors shootout (which was the joint venture that produced the Mitsu Eclipse, the Eagle Talon, and the Plymouth Laser). A few of you had expressed interest in swinging by to check it out, so I figured I'd toss out a reminder.

The actual drag race event is that Sunday. We usually get maybe three to four hundred cars there. The quickest still street legal cars there run 8 second quarter miles, and there will probably be a couple of tube frame cars running in the 7s. Keep in mind, these are all cars running two liter turbocharged motors. Makes my measly 11-second stock appearing car not so cool anymore! I'll be competing in one of the more aggressive street classes and will probably get my tail handed to me, but it's worth a shot, as I'm a better than average, and usually more consistent than average driver compared to most of the guys that usually show up.

We're usually up until all hours hanging out in the parking lot at the Econolodge near the raceway, so if a few of you want to swing by for a beer or two after racing's done, you're more than welcome. I can also guarantee you a ride in a car fast enough to leave a grin on your face until Carlisle next year. ;)

Well, I have good news and bad news.

The good news is that the car is on the trailer, and I'm heading out in about 20 minutes to meet up with the rest of my caravan on the Mass Pike.

The bad news is that I broke my foot yesterday, and I can't drive my car or put any weight on my left foot. A friend of mine will be racing it, while I'm watching from the stands in crutches. :(

So, if Jerome or a few others in the area want to take the beast for a spin from the drivers' seat this weekend... give my cell a ring. She probably won't disappoint... :)

See ya!
