Found this artical in a London newspaper, anyone know of anything comparable in the U.S.?

It is a black box housing a GPS antenna and has four AA batteries that power it for up to three months. It detects movement and sends a text message to your cell phone and allows the car to be tracked on a website.

No installation costs or monthly fee.

Pretty Interesting Idea!

It was just a matter of time until someone came up with it. With the advent of GPS technology. Just make sure that you can hide it well. Is it scanner proof? Can the thief detect the signal like a mobile phone, since it is sending a signal.

Save the cops time in tracking your stolen precious car, and take care of the bums yourself. ;)
I am a shareholder/officer of a company known as Global Telematics, Inc. We make a LoJack type of unit that is sold to auto dealers that is a two wire install (constant power and ground). It is a GPS/Cellular device that allows you to put a geofence around your car and be notified via cellphone, pager or pda if your car has moved or driven outstide its predetermined area. It can detect speed, location and direction of travel. I have them on all my family cars, which gives me the ability to know where my autos are, and more importantly where my son and daughter are when they miss curfew. Keeps my son from speeding around town too. It calls me on my cell phone when he goes over 75 mph for more then 30 seconds. If you are interested, go to our website geotracer.net, login user: demo, password: demo and check it out.

I am sure if any of the forum members wanted one, I could arrange a discount for everyone. Sorry for my shameless plug.

Thanks,

Oz

The units retail at aftermarket stores around the $400 range. Many self install, or go to any stereo shop where installation is usally around $80. Our auto dealer distribution channel is selling them any where from $900 to $1500 installed in new cars.

We have a different pricing model then others, it is a pay as you go service. We have a yearly network fee of $25, this is to keep the unit active and ready for use on the cellular carrier. It is charged once a year for as long as you want the unit to be active. No contracts, you can cancel anytime. Each transaction; a locate, speed alert, perimeter alert are all just $1.99 per transaction. No min. a month. Pay as you use it. Upon setting up an account, you enter a credit card, which is used for the annual network fee and usage. Our research showed that no one likes longterm contracts, penalties for cancelling, basically no one likes commitments.

If you use it, you pay, if you don't, no charge (with the exception of the annual network access fee).

If you are interested, I can send you some collaterals, just email me at oz@aspenadvisory.com or most of the information is available at our website.

Thanks,

Oz
Its tough being a kid these days, I can only imagine if my parents knew where I was when I was out hot rodding and racing around town in my youth, it would of driven them to a heart attack.

My kids don't mind it, I give them more freedom knowing I can check up on them if I want to, and as long as they are driving my cars, it's my rules.

I had a friend who's son got into an accident and called his dad on his cellphone to let him know he was in a fairly bad accident. When his dad asked him where he was, the son was to shaken and did not know. Lucky for his dad, he had a GeoTracer, and his dad was able to call 911 and tell them where his son was, and meet the police and fire department at the location.

It does have its pros and cons, I think it is a great family management tool. The only people that have access are my family members.

I agree with the above, these little guys are so visible that a thief would be committing terminal stupidity because everyone in town would know who he was and where he went! I've never heard of a stolen one either, now a real one, yes! I wonder if the collector insurance companies would tell us what the theft records are. Bet they wouldn't as we would demand lower rates, LOL.
