terrible mileage engine getting better, 28% better so far.

my new 2275 was getting 13mpg. i switched the mains from 180 to 160 and the mileage is right at 18 with no power loss. i will try some 140s and see if it gets better without sacrificing driveability.

Keep an eye on your plugs, Bob. Don't want to go too lean.

Oh---I missed the huge 2275 engine. Good luck with this---I have the feeling that you will solve it.

Bob, keep me posted. My car is sleeping for the winter. It was running great before putting it into storeage but I still would like to improve the mileage. I do smell gas sometimes so I assume that I could go leaner.

140s are too small.
I'm bumping mine from 145s to 150-155s as I've got some pinging.
Are you running 36 vents in your 44s?
I'd suggest 155 on your mains and 200 airs.

Terry's reccomendation is a very good starting point, along with 60 idle jets.....

Also take into consideration that there are a a number of variables within the engine build that effect main and idle set selections, it's not a simple case of what mine has will work for what you have and remember "too lean can be mean" to your wallet. ~Alan

Know that exhaust and cam have HUGE impact on tuning.
And, if you have too LOUD an EXH to hear pinging/detonation, then G-D help you !!
