Just FYI, those are actually 911 ATS cookie cutters, not 914 wheels. The 914 was 4 bolt except the 914-6. The 914-6 wheels were usually fuchs, but some were steel, there are allegedly a few Mahle gasburners. The cookie cutters are unique to the 911. I've seen them on 944's too, but not sure if that was factory or an afterthought.

Good light wheels on a 5 x 130 bolt pattern for those who are considering a 911 or 944 brake upgrade on this car.

OK... I was bored and had little to do, even replaced all the shop lighting. So this is, Project #30 and as they say:
"Life Begin's at 30" Which for me, was 31 years ago....
Gordon did an excellent job prepping the fresh chassis and attaching the body to it. Windshield, deck lid, hood, doors and latchs are installed too. So to me it's not a full build but a completion project.
Yeah, I was looking at that and, knowing that Kathy needs some surgery and 8-week recovery this winter after the holidays, I really didn't think I would get to it at all this Spring (we have some left-over things to do on my Mom's estate, too, like selling her house) so, rather than let it wait to finish it in another two years, it's off to the Land of Merklin for his usual magic. He thinks it's a two-month finish process........Sheesh! Then, it'll be in the hands of someone who can actually drive it, as was intended.

I honestly don't know how the guy does it. He must get something like three hours sleep per night. And he's up at, like, 4:30am to start his day.

Anyway, it was a quiet ride up and back - 5-1/2 hours each way - and was uneventful except for the two lady Charlotte Panthers fans who flashed me and the guy who managed to go off the road (unrelated to the Panthers fans), shot across a 10 foot deep ditch, then up a 15 foot embankment to come to a rest at the top, going in the opposite direction. Probably a good thing he was either drunk or speeding (or both) - maybe saved his life. The friggin turkey.

So now all we have to do is figger out how to get Peter's car up to Chambersburg, too.

Somehow, Life's pace in the Lowcountry is speeding up. Hope it slows down again after the Holidays.

Speaking of that, I was supposed to meet Alan yesterday, but on the way home from a car club party, Kathy's Taurus had an "up close and personal" meeting with a pair of Snap-On wire cutters that were lying in the road and took a bite out of her left rear tire. All we heard was PHOOSH! and...instant flat tire. Damn cutters took a piece out the size of a silver dollar, even considering inflation. Most expensive cutters I ever picked up, after paying for another new Michelin tire. 8>(
Angela, those wheels are stock on my friend Jim's 78 Targa(cookie-cutters). I have seen them on 944s also. I have a set with baloney-skins to roll my 911 project around on. Like cookies a lot, but my car is getting Fuchs 7s and 8s.

My favorite 914 wheel is the '74 2.0 Special Edition, black car, yellow Porsche decal and yellow wheels. I believe they were made by Mahle and were magnesium possibly? 4 lug anyway.....

Gordon, too bad you aren't going to finish the car, but glad that Alan will. Glad everyone is ok.
Your car needs fuchs, the cookies are wrong both in look and year for that car.

Alot of 911 people bag on cookies, so you can pick them up cheap. Damn fine wheel - light and strong. Not Mahle gas burner light, but still a very light wheel. A 5-bolt Mahle gas burner (914-6 and some lucky 911's) is a 9 pound wheel.

I'm a phone dial kick right now. Picked up 5 for $35 each - all straight, original finish. They'll go on one of the subie speedsters.

In '74 Porsche had 3 special editions: The black/yellow "Bumblebee", the ivory/orange "Creamsicle" and the ivory/lime green "Grasshopper". All were 2L "LE" editions. Majority were the black and yellow. The Mahle wheels were painted the accent colors along with bumpers and rocker panels. PORSCHE decals on side matched the accent color. All had F&R sway bars and full instrumentation. (I had a new '72 1.7L --- wish I had waited 2 years but by then prices had gone up significantly).
