I picked my 2002 VS wide body from Brad Chunn yesterday, and drove it home from Chicago to Detroit, which is about a 300 mile trip (and including being stuck in a 3-hour traffic jam). I certainly became "one" with car quickly.

I just want to thank everyone for the wealth of knowledge and information contained on this site. But as a new owner, please be prepared for a onslaught of "newbie" technical questions, particulary since the car came with absolutlely no documentation, other than a title. In fact, I am posting my first one in a few mintues.

Nice car! Looks EXACTLY like mine .... except for the flares, the wheels, the interior color, the exterior appointments and the location. Well, almost exactly !! :)

Seriously, this is probably one of those "Why did I wait so long" purchases you will grin about for a long, long time. Enjoy!

Drive fast, drive safe, smile wide,

Lived in Detroit, Grosse Pointe, Davison, Grand Blanc (High School), Grand Rapids (College), Holland before finally heading outta states. Still have plenty of family and friends in MI. Michael - get your baby ready for the BIG Woodward Cruise....should be soon.

You bet, Mel! My wife and I are out on Woodward quite a bit throughout the summer, particularly in the weeks leading up to the Cruise. We also love street rods and muscles cars in addition to Porsches and other sports cars. I guess we are just incurable gearheads.

Until now, we were primarily spectators (the '87 Carrera doesn't count as a real Woodward cruiser), but the wide bodied Speedster with Centerline mags certainly does!
Jim, David, and Mickey--Thank you for the kind words about the look of the car! We are pretty happy with the way it looks. In fact, we started calling it "The Outlaw" around the house.

Felix--Vintage did the build, as a roller. The first owner finished it off.

Kelly--My apologies about the .bmp format. I wasn't thinking at the time. I converted some of the .bmp photos to a .jpg format and attached them below.

Lane--The first owner is responsible for the hardtop. It came with the car. A company called Fibersteel, located in Azusa, California, built it. Here's their link: http://www.fibersteel.com/

When the original owner first put the car on the block in 2005, he added $2k to the price if someone wanted the hardtop. The hardtop was just part of the package when I bought the car from the second owner. No bump in price. Once in a while I catch a break.

I really like the different look the hardtop brings to the car. It's very light and easy to install and remove. It orignally came with sliding plexiglass windows, but they never made it up from South Carolina to Chicago when the second owner took possession. I will probably order replacement windows after I get the higher priority items sorted out.
Thanks, Mel. I think you may be right. My wife and I cruised Woodward Sunday night and parked with about a dozen street rods and muscle cars. What a buzz the Speedster caused! I called it my "little German street rod." Go figure. Of course, I was drooling over the some of the great street rods at the same time they were climbing all over the Speedster. What strange but fun bedfellows we all made that night. I guess when you boil it all down, it was just a bunch of gearheads appreciating one another's cars, regardless of what they were.
