Can anyone give me some hints on this one? Stock Type 1 w/dual Kadrons & elec ignition - when cold I am getting a popping thru the exhaust. Mostly upon first 3-4 minutes on cold start aro 1500 rpm. More noticible on decel for first 10-15 min. Once warmed it is almost non detectable but still there. I have sync'd the carbs and adjusted mixture. Is it normal or if not, does it sound like carb or timing?
Thanks in advance for the feedback

Dale,
I bought my car around this time of year, and it was doing that when I first got it. On decel I was getting those little backfires, but once it was warm it would stop. After readjusting the carb the noise went away. Turns out the car was running a little rich. I don't know for sure that it is the same problem as your car, but it may be something to look into.

This isn't a very technical fix but...I find that if I let the car idle for about one minute prior to starting off, it never makes the popping sounds. I do this even if I'm stopping for gas or whatever, I just find something to do for about a minute before I take off and I never have that problem anymore. But I will ask Kirk about it the next time I have it in for service.
