A few weeks ago, someone (can't remember who) had for sale here a pretty cool old mechanical wristwatch styled like the VDO tach in a Speedster.
Someone else (can't remember who, either) pointed out that you could get something visually similar - though a much lower quality watch - from a website called Zazzle. I think they ordered one and posted a picture here.
I checked the website and found they make two different styles of this watch - one larger, sized like modern watches, and a smaller one, sized like men's watches used to be. I've got small wrists, so I ordered one of those.
You can also 'customize' the faces of these watches, adding text and some graphics, so I added the initials 'VDO' in the same green used for the other numerals.
Well, it arrived today (it takes two weeks if you want a customized design) and here it is.
This is by no means a quality watch, but it will probably do for a beater. The 'leather' strap it came with is really pretty cheesy, so I put on a rubber Casio strap which, surprisingly, actually classes it up a bit.
I guess there are worse ways to throw away forty bucks.
