The paint is called Beck/Chamonix silver (prata actually). It's a special paint made by Sikkens of Brazil especially for us. It is essentially the same formula as BMW sterling silver effect, with none of the modern metallic flakes put in, instead they are substituted with an extra fine natural raw aluminum powder.
I haven;t even opened up the info packet Pat sent with the motor, but they usually have a dyno chart. I'll post later about it, and if it is not there, I'll have Pat e-mail it over.
When I drove my friend Bill's Vintage I thought that it could use a dead pedal. Of course a Vintage is very different from a Beck in this area, so Carey polled some of the faithful, and they too, thought the Beck could use a dead pedal, so I asked Carey to fab one up for me. This is pre-paint and pre-installation, but you get the idea, and it certainly looks solid!

Jack,

I was told that my version dynoed at 145 HP. Merlot has a Rancho transmission (3.88) I know that 110 MPH is NO PROBLEM. A Carrera and I tangled on I-40 East of Asheville, Boy, did he get a surprise!!!! He would not stop and drink a beer with me and stick his nose in the air. No friendly at'll! The license plate was from Yankee Land. I do feel that I need another gear however. A 5 speed would really add to highway driving. I've forgotten and reached to shift again when in 4th at 65-70 MPH.

Carey...remember that Pat would not send us a torque/HP curve, just a verbal 145HP.
Jim,

I love it!!! When I was a wee bit younger, I raced the true 1/4 mile dirt track circuits in middle Tennessee. 3 races on the weekends, Friday night, Saturday night and Sunday afternoon. Just a note about Sunday, we were not allowed to start the engines until church let out! The engine that I had Pat build was based on dirt track rapid acceleration out of the corners and down the straights experience. It is an extremely over square design.

Rear is missing "1600 Super." It will get added tomorrow. Interior showing steering wheel, shift knob, grab handle, right convex mirror, etc. I'm so thrilled. It turned out JUST how I expected...only better! Thanks again for all of your help! Without your help, it wouldn't be half the car that it is. Your collective knowledge made this possible. I was able to get insurance today, so the only thing left is delivery, registration, and the installation of a couple of grille badges. I will make one final post once I get my vanity plate. I have something in mind that will be a bit of Speedster trivia. I stumped Carey, so maybe I'll stump you guys :) The tag I want is currently available. I will give away a brand new Porsche cap to whomever can guess the significance (nice hat, but I didn't like the way it looked on me.)

I'm usually pretty good at trivia, but I'm drawing a blank - unless it is the same number/letter combination that James Dean had (don't know why that just came to me).

Regardless, that's a gorgeous car. I see Carey is now putting the fire extinguishers where I mounted mine. Here's a tip for when you travel: You WILL want a cup holder. I got a porcelain coffee mug with a red Speedster on the side and stuck some heavy duty velcro on the bottom. I stick it to the floor in front of the fire extinguisher whenever I travel. It will hold a canned drink in a thin coozy, or one of those 20 oz plastic bottles. Because it's on velcro you can take it out whenever you want.
News flash! My Speedster will be delivered one day early, on Friday, personaly by the guy who built my Speedster, Mike! Is that service or what?! I'm taking the afternoon off and meeting him at my house at 1:00P. Then it will stand in my garage until the following Friday, when I will get it registered....hopefully. Good thing the weather is turning crappy again next week or I would lose my mind! Here are photos from Carey from today in the sunshine that we're currently enjoying...through Friday. Any more guesses on the tag? I'll post the tag (which will also be the car's name) next Friday after I visit the Secretary of State. Then I'll give everyone until midnight on Saturday to guess. The first person who posts a correct guess of the meaning behind the tag (if anyone does :)) will get a brand-new, never worn (except for trying on) Porsche Cap. I'll post a photo of it when the time comes :)

It was beautiful day to get my Speedster. 66 degrees and sunny with little wind. It's really a shame, though, that I can't drive it yet. I took the afternoon off and it arrived at around 2:30. I enjoyed installing my 356 Registry grille badge (with Mike, from Special Edition's help. That was a bugger) and license tag holder and cleaning the stickers off the windshield before I put her to bed. Of course, without a tag I couldn't (ahem) drive her around the block just once ;). Absolutely perfect! Here's 3 shots of her on her delivery day. Now on to registration. I have that appointment scheduled for next Friday. Fortunately, the weather is going to suck this week, so I won't lose my mind between now and then. Wish me luck with the registration.

I understand the frustration with the local DMV. Due to some less than well informed folks at my local office it took a couple of months before I could legally drive mine. In the mean time, of course, I NEVER EVER drove it illegally. No, not me.

Congrats!

EDIT: Drive it as much as you can anyway, because the schmutz they line the tanks with dissolved in gas. If it sits too long it will clog your carbs and the entire fuel system. You want to flush it through quickly or you WILL have issues for a while. As me how I know.
I've got a ticket to ri...ide! I took this afternoon off, and, thanks to my friend Bill Demeter, I got my registration! One week from delivery to registration (that was mainly driven by my availability). After I got home, I decided to take it for a drive and couldn't get the passenger door shut. I finally figured out that the door handle on the inside is not returning to the down position after opening....after I pulled the grab handle off on the inside trying to shut the door. I got that fixed (except the handle won't return to neutral unless you push it down). Then I jumped in and pushed the accelerator to the floor and promptly pulled the throttle cable loose from the linkage. In trying to repair that, I stripped the head out on the set screw. I decided that I should take a break and go out to dinner. Of course, it was really bugging me, so I retrieved a normal screw to replace the set screw, got it put together and went for a cold weather cruise. I'm sure glad that I've been reading this board and was prepared for the "sorting." I've already fixed two things on the first day. I guess it's REALLY mine now :) Okay, now for the contest. My car is called "NATALIE." The tag is ordered. The first person that guesses the correct reason why wins this brand-new Porsche cap. Good luck!

Tom,

Tag short for "Not a lie"?

I find it hard to believe that you builder would deliver a car that the door handle did NOT work correctly and pulling the throttle cable apart is a bad sign as well.

Sorry for the problems but the quality control seems a bit lacking to me.

Very nice looking car from the pictures.

Cheers!
