Now that I've had a little rest and was thinking back on the most awesome weekend, I just wanted to say one of the highlight was the super generous raffle prizes donated by the most amazing Speedster builders!

For those of you that weren't there, you missed out on a Nardi steering wheel donated by Henry at IM, a gift certificate for parts from Kirk & Mary at Vintage, an exhaust system from John at JPS, and a luggage rack from (oh s@*&!, I forgot who that was from, help me out guys.) Thanks to all of you for being so generous!

Yah - we couldn't believe it when Vince, Gerd, and me were sitting
outside of our rooms, when this guy drives up with this beautiful
silver/blue top speedster. He was looking for Kirk. He told us,
he was a local that wanted to sell his car. I believe Gerd asked
him, "how much" and he said $8000. We couldn't believe it. We
all jumped from our chairs, with our beers in our hand, and walked
over to see this car. It was really nice.
Now the kicker to this is - - - - - he had already made the deal with you Troy. So, why was he at the motel trying to sell it to Kirk? Maybe to see if Kirk would give him more?
But you got the deal of the century ! ! ! ! You could sell it
today, and almost double what you paid for it !
Good luck with the car. My ATM wouldn't let me take out that much

im just glad Jen won the rack since it would look pretty dumb on my spyder. ;) you took home the lot!

i am still sorting through the 500+ pictures we took and one really stood out- that would be Gerd's ride parked @ Topanga Ranch Motel with a Coors light sitting on the door sill. LOL. That's a pretty nice mod! Maybe next year someone will give out one of those plug in icebox coolers...
Juh-Hee-sus!
I thought Merklin had the Midas touch. Eight thousand dollars after someone practically abandoned it in front of you?
You gave that dude a gas can and a kick in the butt to get on down the road, Troy!

That's frigging outstanding. Good-looking car, too!
What are you going to do with two, or did I miss something?
Did'ja sell the other one?
No Cory, I didn't sell my widebody. As much as I would like to keep the silver speedster, I'm not going to. I'll clean it up a little and replace the slightly pitted headlight rings, turn signal grills and windshield posts and then sell it. Here are a couple more pictures of the two of them in my garage and the rest of the story.
The guy pulled up behind me in the gas station early in the morning, before the winery run, in a new Volvo SUV. He asked me if my car was a Vintage Speedster and I said yes. Then he told me he had a 7 year old Vintage with 20,000 miles on it and his wife wouldn't ride in it. He also said that he lived in Morro Bay right on the ocean and was tired of replacing the chrome trim every two years and that he wanted to sell it. I asked him if he belonged to the SOC and he said no, so I told him there would be about 50 speedsters down at the beach in about 15 minutes and that he should take it down there if he really wanted to sell it. I also told him that Kirk was going to be there. Then I asked him how much he wanted for it and he said it was probably worth $10 or $12 thousand, but that he would take $8,000 for it. That was when I asked him for his phone number and told him I would be by in the afternoon to take a look at it. I should have followed him home right then and there, but I didn't want to miss the winery run. WHAT AN IDIOT!!!
Apparently, he took it down to the beach and found a few of the SOC'ers who didn't go on the winery tour and some of them even sat in it. It's unclear to me why it wasn't sold to one of them, but I suspect they may have been nursing serious hangovers from the night before and not thinking clearly.
Two thirds of the way through the winery run I decided that maybe it wasn't such a great idea to have told him to go show it to the rest of the SOC'ers and I called him and went to take a look at it.
I couldn't believe what I was looking at and that I had actually told him to go show it to everyone else! I gave him a $500 deposit to hold it and took a bus back to Morro Bay on Monday with $7,500 in cash and drove it home with that classic SEG on my face all the way.
