A 1963 Impala with a 427??

Oh yeah...they made a few. Thinking something like "If the 409 is fine, a 427 would be heaven."

Stroked it. 13.5-1 compression ratio. .550 lift cam. Couple of Carter AFBs on top. Set it in there with the 4-spd and a 4.11 posi. Then remade the fenders and hood out of aluminum.

Gentlemen, I give you the Z11 package.

$300-ish. If you can find one.

I'm now 72 and having drag race for decades. ( Street - modifies and B Econo dragster ).  I know some of the history on this car and what this car is. Generally speaking, a lot of younger ppl have little knowledge or even care about the prominence.  Absolute beautiful & rare drag car and not meeting reserve makes sense, it's still worth well into the $400k range. However, cars of prominence are losing value do to the owners passing etc. Look at Stanley Steamers, Brass Era cars, Neo Classics and even Model A 's and T's can be had for a third less than what their valuation was just ten years ago, Go to the Fall Hershey National Show and you'll see owners in their 70's and 80's accompanied by their sons in their mid 60's.

For some reason, Ed's picture didn't show up on either computer.

I got the link by clicking the gear on his post, quoting his text, then going into the Source Code and cutting and pasting the link into a new tab, then closing down the entire post. The image was blocked from being saved, so I did a snip of the ad and saved it that way. I'm sure the hot-rod computer jocks have a less kludgy way of doing it, but I did it the pipefighter way.

Here it is:

I think we are hitting the high mark in car valuations... & I do believe cars will start losing value as the younger gens don't care so much about provenance.

I used to care, but have come to realize that a nice "tribute" GTO (read that as a tempest with all the GTO parts) is probably more enjoyable anyway. Just like these fantastic plastic cars,  all the "performance" and "looks", none of the financial drawbacks WHEN you drive it...    and it should be driven.   >>and I prefer the way Stan, Carlos, Lane, et. al drive them.   Someday mine will be out there too.  (It may not even be painted first... can anybody say gelcoat patina )

A few photos of when one of my body shop friend came upon this Pontiac ...White Lightning a 1962 Catalina lightweight .....aluminum originally owned by Max Sterling. " Kevin" stumbled across it here in a West Virginia farm garage 7 years ago.  Purchased it for $14k, we got it running cleaned it a bit and was sold to a guy in Virginia . It then went to Mecum Auction in Florida in 2017
