I finally did it. I flew down to VS yesterday afternoon and purchased my new Speedster. It will be completed in 5 weeks (or less). I could have easily done this over the phone, but the experience of being at the shop, walking through the production area, seeing the work get done, and speaking to both Kirk and Mary in person was priceless. The extraordinary customer service I received truly made my purchase memorable. For those of you who have interacted with Kirk and/or Mary (and Cathy) know exactly what I mean. You won't come across nicer folks.

I have been dreaming of owning this car for the greater part of the past 20 years and to be there at VS in person to make the sale was simply a dream come true. My girlfriend, Erin, joked that I will have nothing more to read online now that I have made my purchase. It's the opposite really. I'll have MORE to read about the Speedster, trips to plan for, photos to share, and experiences to share with you all. Her birthday is on April 28. I hope to have the car ready to cruise with her on her special day. Now, the madness REALLY begins.

I flew down there from Sacramento about 15 years ago but it took me another 10 years before I got my Speedy. Kirk picked me up at Orange county airport. I hung out at VS for about 4 hours, then he took me back to the airport. He was very lo-pressure and told me to get out in the shop and "kick some tires" and ask questions.
I'd recommend the trip to anyone!

I slowly started building my CMC in late 1993. I was in Anaheim in 1996 for work and just showed up at VS, unannounced, just to see if I could see the place and a few cars. I told Kirk that I was struggling with the build of a CMC I had bought and was looking at how others built their cars so I could get some ideas on how to finish the thing. Kirk took well over an hour to walk me through his place, showed me a bunch of cars, showed me closely how they built them and answered any questions I came up with - all without the expectation of making a sale. Not only was I impressed with that, but I returned home with enough new knowledge to finish my car (even though it still took another seven years - work kept getting in the way!)

I've also gotten great tips over the years from Carey Hines at Beck and Henry Reisner at IM, but I dropped in on Kirk and Mary first and they were great to me.

Thanks for all the wishes fellow SOC'ers.

TROY ---> as you eluded to earlier, I would likely change my mind on the color a few times before I settle on "the one". You were right. I ended up with my original color option of Metallic Silver ext and Wine int; I had three other options in mind. I saw the silver and wine at the VS shop and knew it was the right combo for me. I went with the Alante Vinyl. You can't believe it's not leather...simply luxurious to the touch. I went with most of the practical upgrades aside from a bigger engine...I really want 30/32 miles to the gallon. Kirk recommended the standard 1600. Kirk also has this new radio option where the only visible part is the iPhone connector. I'm going to be more than happy. Can't wait to put on those cruzin windows.

Congratulations on your new baby Michael. I ordered mine in mid december and got it in mid January, spent a few more dollars on it in the way of added suspension upgrades,(camber/anti-sway/wheel alignment) LED bulbs, had a 3 step paint polishing done professionally, and a couple other minor things (cruisn windows, fire extinguisher).I was totally happy with it when I recieved it and am even more jazzed now w the improvements. Because VS is such a prolific maker and I did not see much if anything bad on the internet about their operation , and they were in the same state as me, I felt pretty comfortable just ordering it and having it delivered without incurring the expense of a special trip south.Except for the anxiety of not seeing it built everything worked out good. Kirk even sent me photos of the work in progress. You should be very happy, I was.
