Thanks guys.  The '61 was found in the California desert where it had been stored for a long, long time. The seller included all the things he found in the glovebox to include an employee ID from USC in 1976 and a receipt for four Michelin tires, also in 1976 ($109.00). I decided on this one because it had no rust...ever.  It shows 11,000 miles and it's all numbers matching.  The cosmetic part of the restoration and the major components were done well.  There are a lot of little things I'm not thrilled with, but that'll give me something to do.

The Speedster came from South Atlanta Motorsports in Atlanta. Brian, the owner, was an absolute joy to work with.  He kept every promise and turned out a beautiful little car.  The work he does to improve the cars that come from Vintage Speedster is well worth the small premium.  The paint is stunning. I only put a few miles on it today, but it goes, stops and steers well.  I look forward to driving the crap out of it.

Annan.

When your Beck Spyder arrives (any day now I hope) I want to get a picture of your 997 Carrera, 356 Coupe and the 550 Spyder all together!

By the way, which one will you be driving to our SOC gathering in SLO?  You better be going!  None of these "I have to work" excuses!  If that is the case, I'll have a talk with your dad and get it worked out.

Troy,

I'm glad I've got you to help me with my dad...working for your father is not optimal when it comes to getting extra vacation!

I hope I'll have my Spyder before long -- Carey is working hard on it as we speak! I'll definitely post photos of all three in my garage (my wife's Touareg Exec will have to sit outside!).

Sorry for the thread hijack, but had to post a couple of pictures.  The first one is my Black Betty II Widebody (current project) behind my blue Widebody on the tandem side of my garage.  Notice that I have added a drive through to a covered patio at the back of my house, which allows me to work in the shade on these hot summer days.
The second picture was taken by my girlfriend Sally as I was driving Black Betty II home from the alignment shop.  As is very common the guy in the Boxster pulled up next to me and we had a "little red light chat" about our cars.

^Nice.  We took the Speedster out to dinner tonight.  It was Sheilah's first ride.  She was truly shocked at how many jaws dropped as we rolled by.  People were taking photos and asking questions.  She didn't know what to think.  When we go out in the Carrera, no one even gives it a second glance.

I definitely need to hook up with one of the Maryland guys who knows carbs.  The car won't idle for more than maybe 30 seconds, then it loads up and dies.  Also at a light throttle cruise it's popping back through the carbs a bit.  Other than that, we're pretty thrilled.

We had a meeting with a kitchen contractor this afternoon.  I happened to look out the window just before he knocked. He looked from the Carrera to the Audi to the Mercedes, to the Coupe, to the Speedster and started shaking his head.  I can't wait to see his estimate.

Well, I haven't put a lot of miles on either of them yet, but...  The power seems to be about the same.  The shifter is far more precise in the Speedster.  Even though it's a little notchy, I like it better. I don't like the shifter in the Porsche at all.  I need to see if it needs rebuilt. It feels more like stirring soup than shifting gears.  The speedster is flatter in the corners.  I had it lowered as low as Kirk could make it.  On the other hand, the 356 sits up pretty high. I'm planning to drop it when I get to it. That should help with the feeling that it's wallowing around corners.  The Speedster exhaust is much louder than the 356, but the 356 sounds more throaty and powerful. I've been pleasantly surprised.  One is a fiberglass replica and the other a 50 year old car, but they're both tight and rattle free.  The 356 refuses to idle at all.  The Speedster will idle for about 30 seconds before it loads up and dies.  I know **** about these carburetors, so I need to find someone who does. Both cars run fine as long as I don't need to stop for any reason because they are seriously unhappy at idle.
