I recently came across a cache of old build photos on a CD and thought I might show how much my car has changed from when I built it to now. It's been a long, strange trip, for sure..... I started the build in 1995 and got on the road in 2000, then began an era of "continuous improvement" right up to now. Most interestingly, the advent of the digital camera took place sometime after I started the build, when the car was in black Gel Coat and it looked a lot like Bill Drayer's "Blackie". Everything I have from that earlier era is un-scanned photos. It wasn't til 1999 that I chose to go with Pearl White, after seeing someone's new Audi that color at work. fortunately, Pearl White exterior and Burgundy interior go well together!
So here's one from the engine build:
And an early shot of the wrong-color, 914 seats, before the sheepskin seat covers:
And after the seat covers (which were cheaper than having the seats re-upholstered):
The most striking part is covering the dash and finally getting the right color seats installed:
The outside changed a bit, too, but it was all wheel trim. Polishing the spokes made a Yuuuuuge difference:
That's enough for now......It might be nice to compose a few "glamor shots" sometime, but the summer is young, yet.
