The Great Race Is On Again!

The Grand Race is heading North in June. I wonder if Speedsters could join in!!! %~) Take a look at the route map and go to a viewing point near you. Don't for get the picnic basket, food and drink.

Looks like it would be fun, but are replicas eligible? I couldn't find any definitive descriptions of eligibility of vehicles other than "Classic, Antique and Vintage card".

I already marked my calander, it's going right through my town... Chambersburg, PA ! All you do a for a local section of the run is join in the procession.

...and it heads to me in Hershey!

Well, ya know, Hershey or Merklinville -- er I mean Chambersburg -- would be very doable. How about it fellas? Should we try to crash this party for a few hours?? Call Max and let him know there may be a newsworthy event in the making.

I'm there for the ride along. Don't have $3k to enter but, looking about, seems they don't have any prohibitions on replicas. Mine's an antique anyway. Built in 1980!

Hey if'n they're using public roads, who's to say we can't use'em at the same time?

I'm betting that there are more than one replicas all ready entered in that "race". They probably start with different parts than we do, and they mostly use "period correct" parts for assembly, BUT they are still REPLICAS, not originals!

Eligibility for Entry

All contestants, vehicles, and crew members must be approved by Great Race/VCRA Entry and Technical Committees.
[GREAT RACE only] Vehicle entries must have been manufactured in 1969 or earlier and shall be as defined in Part IX. A
Hot Rod or Muscle Car that because of its power train, suspension, equipment, or other modifications would be considered
a post-1969 vehicle for purposes of applying an age factor may be accepted for entry on an individual review basis based
on Great Race

Unfortunately it also says "Disc brakes are allowed on cars/trucks only if original equipment" so that would eliminate the majority of our cars...

......... Re-Bodied Vehicles: Reasonable re-creations of historical vehicles may be accepted for entry. A vehicle manufactured in 1969 or earlier may be re-bodied to resemble a pre-1970 race.

Any idea where the entrants will be staying in Maggie Valley ? From he site map it looks like they will be there on Sat night, 6/11.

Tom ,there isn't a lot of places to stay in Maggie Valley! We could try to find out by contacting Coker Tire in Chattanooga.

Wild Bill, Dr. Clock, and any other folks looking at Hershey for a join-in: How do we get truly organized for this? Times, places, etc.? Pls advise what you think.

Nothing etched in stone as of yet. I'm thinking of taking a 1/2 day (off at 10am) and maybe buzzing to the Merklin casa and taking it from there. The "Racers" are supposed to hit Chambersburg for lunch and then ride to Hershey with us horning in at some point. All dependant on the weather.

Love It; when a plan comes together! Maybe we should "copy" and place the Great Race I.D. plaques on our Speedsters. We know the entry cars will have some kind of I.D. Just a thought from a blockader.

As far as the disc brake thing? Just tell them your car is a replica of 356 C. If they realize the car really looks alot more like an A, then tell them it's actually a replica of a PROTYPE factory test vehicle.

I have had MP Lafer Clube USA badges made for $25/ea. Now the minimum order is up to 40 or $1000 minimum. This company is great. The MP badges weighed 8oz ea. stamped in bronze and finished in patone colors cloisonne coated glass.

My understanding is that the Great Race lunch stop in Chambersburg is scheduled for 12:15, for now just mark the date and we'll figure a plan over beer at Carlisle .

What's the date on Chambersburg? is that the 12th (Sunday) or the 13th?

Hey! They're doing lunch on the 17'th at Stratton Mountain resort. That's my old neighborhood, and about 1 hour closer than Bennington!

Any of you New Englanders up for lunch and gawking at a bunch of road-weary old cars? They'll probably be cleaning them all up for the triumphant blast into Bennington.

OK, Bill and Alan: As I understand it, you two, as the offical President-in-charge-of-all-things-Carlisle (Bill, or maybe that's Bruce??) and the ad-hoc de facto Doctor of Nothing in Particular, Emeritus (Alan) officially have made room on the crowded Carlisle Agenda (eating, drinking and goofing off), for a splinter meeting to plan out how to invade the Great Race in June, somewhere between Chambersburg and Hershey -- or maybe all the way in between C-burg and Hershey. I'm lovin' it. I'll bring the beer.

Hmmmm, that would be just after Mickey and I come back south from Montreal's F1 race. Bwaaaaahaaaaaa!(Just joking Mickey, but I am contemplating F1 this year)

See if they know the route! Looks the start in Chattanooga allows the group to eat lunch in Athens,TN. A 1 1/2 hour drive? From Athens to Maggie Valley must be either the Cherohala Skyway or The Tail of the Dragon. I travel this route when going home to McMinnville TN to avoid I-40. Any of the SOCers want to join me for The Great Race in the mountains ?
