Jake,
I've seen what MM does with half of 190HP.... Please throw in a Speedster collar with a bell so I can find his S. No longer be able to track him down from the burnt oil aroma because your engine will probably won't leak (O:~R

PS: When I sell my child (on E-BAy now), I'm next....Say $$$ 225HP for 180HP? I dislike George more than MM (O:!

PS2: Just kidding GB (Just screwed up my deal with Jake..)O:

Thanks for the "comments" regarding the play on "Tonight" from West Side Story. And yes John...... What, Me Worry.

I figured our Canadian brethern would groove on it, or at least their hip Prime Minister might!

Paul, it, West Side Story was on AMC as I was reading this thread, thus the inspiration. Had a vision of you and Jake snapping your fingers in an agressive dance towards George and Pat, who are also snapping their fingers after combing their Ducks. T-1 Gang vs the T-4 boys. The alternative was a parody on a Michael Jackson Video... but I couldn't see him as a Speedster guy or someone who could give a hoot about T-1s or T-4s like this crowd does. Somehow, Chicago teen gang members (who can really dance and sing well)with switchblades worked a little better in this mind's eye.

Yes, to all the other comments. Too much time.... a little skewed, but in a good way, and yeah, I'm a bit different. Had to be to fly Aero-scouts in Vietnam for two tours then fly checks between islands at night in Hawaii, surfed the north shore for some years, then work Air Traffic Control for 22 years, including DFW "Regional" Radar Approach, covering 100 plus airports.... and somewhere before all the ATC and Hawaii being part of the first gathering of Rainbow People on a mountaintop in Colorado... (it was all because I was chasing a really hot girl from Oregon who was headed there) sorta gives you a unique perspective on life and people. Add a double lung transplant 2 years ago for a rare genetic disorder that was discovered after a lifetime of jogging and never smoking (cigarettes)... with an 18 month prognosis at the time. Through it all I honed a good sense of humor..... it's good medicine.

The 'intimidator is born', the 'terminator' is elected and I have something called a 'GB annihilator' coming to me soon for my engine compartment! This must be Caleeforn-ya dreamin'!

Drag slips, dyno slips, pink slips. Loose lips sink ships.

Yes GB, I owe you a debt of thanks... Your continual huffing and puffing, your inane obsessions with being the best and being right at all costs on all subjects from guns and marksmanship to motorbikes and sports cars past and present, even to your daughter's accomplishments and lastly, all things replicar inspired me to seek engine wisdom elsewhere!

I have read your posts and followed up on your suggestions. I have read and reread Hot VW, VW Trends, and even ventured out onto some other VW-based forums... This time I have done my homework, unlike when I beat the auctioneer's gavel and bought a cute car on ebay, on a whim, on a lark...

No this time I have been inspired to understand horsepower and torque and all things squishy and all things forged...big feet, swivel feet, dancing feet, rocker arms, manly arms, call-to-arms! I could spew forth a littany of terms new to me to asuage my ego, but I'll pass.

To those who asked, I bought a 2316 Type4. To those who asked, Jake will be building a transmission to accomodate this engine's performance, which by the way will be enough to satisfy my sports car mania, which will be superior in all habbits across my vision of the sports car spectrum... It will be cooled by external filters and a DTM set-up and although it won't have that cool 911-looking shroud or a more original-looking type1 shroud, it will be unique to my engine bay and shiny black... until the carbon-fibre units are available, coming soon to engine bays near and far...

and oh yeah, I think it will be adequate to smoke ol' GB's ass no matter what he ends up stickin' in his engine bay, no matter how many times he squeels his tires goin' in a straight line with his slip showin'

Ahhh, Caleefor-nya dreamin'
No meds needed for this little bit of reality.
MM
Jake, when I want to build an engine its a design excercise and price doesn't really enter into my decisions, and sometimes you have to rebuild because the first shot doesn't give you what you want so you spend some more money.

What makes you think my 2,387 won't last as long? It's built on a new aluminum full-flow through-bolted TF-1 case modified for external pressure relief, type 4 center main Scat forged ultra-light flanged crankshaft, Scat forged flywheel, Crower titanium rods, CB Perf. camshaft with 58 gram Schubeck composite lifters, 044 heads with cryo'd dual valve springs and titanium spring retainers, 9.5 to 1 compression, Dellorto 48 DRLA's, 181 shroud with type 3 cooler and stock VW tin, Berg/Schadek O-ringed 30mm oil pump, MOCAL thermostat and Setrab auxilliary oil cooler with fan, Mallory adjustable mechanical distributor with Pertronix ignitor, and 1 3/4" A-1 muffler "sidewinder" exhaust.

Speaking of new engine cases, I haven't heard of new type 4 engine cases; are there any?
I just found 100 brand new TIV cases in Africa.. TIVcases don't wear out like TIs do, so we don't need them most of the time...

We never asked for another full run down of your aftermarket engine(its not a TI, its aftermarket) so why did you need to go there?????Oh I forgot, wanted to use those big shiny words and brag about spending money on eye candy....I forgot.

You are a real piece of work, the day you were conceived someone worked overtime to make those genes.
Aw, Jake, you're so sweet...; I love you too.

100 new type 4 cases is better than nothing; in 1983 it took me a month to find a suitable type 4 junkyard engine to rebuild (that was in Philadelphia). Rebuilt it so my girlfriend would only have one day of down time on her 412 for the engine swap.

Rick,

You know the 1776 in my car now is going to need a new home... Here's an idea. I know you are less than satisfied with the engine you have in your car now...why not swap it with me and I'll use it in my truck. No offense intended,at all. I was either going to sell my engine or I was going to stick it in the truck along with the transmission and get a little more oomph and a lot less 'crash box'
characteristiczzz, so

It'd be sort of a waste of all those built-up innardzzz Ted put together for me and while it might look neat as a feature article in one of the mags, I don't need 120+/-HP in the truck!

Just a thought while I was Calee-fornicatin' with ol' GB oops, dreamin'...dreamin' for you squeemish ones out there. No 'F' word here, huh-uh, no sir...

Baron von Medicine Man
Over and out
Baron Von MM,
Your offer izzzzz way too kind & very well appreciated! However, between putting a priceless value on our friendship & your Fangio style of driving :O) I would never be able to go through with that transaction very well knowing that "BurritoBoooooom" would be heard one day as you'd be toting some lumber for one of Di's projects that might just get you compensated (O:
Baron Von Grenado
The Buritoboom-boom! I think I see a new theme for my truck evolving. You probably hear it farting its way up 780 from your house now as it is... Diana does have a lot of projects and I want to keep her happy...

Nah, I might need something to trailer my GB annihilator to girly-girl green light night at Sears Point... What am I talkin' about, I'll drive up there at highway speeds in reverse, shit, I'll run the 1/4 in reverse, some folks have a problem with the engine in the back anyway!

I'll just do a dsylexic pass or two to be fair to ol' GB!
That way when he heads for petticoat junction to run his 23872500Pr2, he won't get his panties in a bunch ...

What's a Fangio driving style? Does it include a scarf and gogglezzz?
MM

You know, in all this engine hoopla from GB's Typo1 to the Raby'd Type4, the fact that my Type 4'll run on Budweiser has been totally overlooked! Theron, thanks for reminding me...
The fact that I can Bar-b-que off the Tangerine Racing super 9 exhaust system will make me a hit with the tail-gate crowd at the Oakland Collesium (pleeze no cheeze eatin' in my backseat at that other footbald venue) as well... where's the surpriezzz that I'm a Raider fan in that? Yes, my face is painted to match my car and that on a Wednesday night at Sears ought to be a hoot!

Laminate this, eh?

I can't wait!
MM

PS Vacaville dude, I took a client out to the end of Seneca off Cheyenne today...we have a potential project on 19 acres...I climbed a big damn hill, 300' elevation according to the plot map, in the speedster. What a trip, dusty as Hell, but we only got sideways once on the way up...comin' down was a little dicey but I never lost traction...Geez, no wonder Ricky doesn't want my engine!
(Message Edited 10/9/2003 4:21:27 PM)
I thought it was interesting that to accomodate the larger 911 engine, Intermeccanica lenghtens ( Theron when are we gonna' get spell check?)the chasis. In my exploits today, short wheelbase was better, but I'd have been much more confident in my VW truck with its gearing (even though it would be top heavy)... An allwheel drive speedster should be on someone's horizon...awesome.
MM
Baron Von Intimidator,
Juan Manuel Fangio was a VERY fast driver that GB can associate with due to his advance age (O: (Just kiddin' George). I've seen how fast you are with Ted's 1776 & on that Demo run when you pulled away from my Burrito Totin' 1776, all I could do was eat your dust & smell your exhaust. Thanks goodness for the Cocktail Party Dave & I were having, otherwise it would really depress me in thinking how much faster you really are. Oh well, let me go open another beer...(O:
Robert, years ago a guy named Lou Faegol (sp?) built a one-off Porsche 356 4 wheel drive race car. It had separate front and rear engine/trans units but was never successful because there were problems keeping the two drive units in synchronous power delivery states.

When last we met, Jake had created a large-ass powerfull Type4 motor. In posting the engine details a member/poster of Type 1 allegences (Theron when are we gonna get speelcheek?)immediately took issue with ol' Jake.

It seems said member/poster is never to be outdone when it comes to engine choice and savvvvy!

Many other member/posters joined the fray confessing concerns about ultimate engine longevity, torque and whether there was enough money on the planet for one practioner to spend or room in the universe for these two differing points of view.

Jim Ward, a talented member/poster lifted a musical stanza, Hell three acts at least as I now recall, when it became evident that not only were member/posters aligning in the two key camps, but some were backing their play with money...and engine purchases.

More rabble-rousing and grousing ensued until a nobleman of the one protagonists' camp stepped forward in seeming defense of his product and enlightened all that a good-time would be had by the self-professed expert of large ego and wallet with the Type1. Maybe here, maybe at another post where the authority placed long awaited statistical data to suplant his rambling and expenditures...

It has been generally accepted that this individual will be backing his play with perhaps more than one engine in hopes of remaining king of his throne and a legend in his own mind...

Meanwhile in other men's rooms around the site Jake keeps selling more engines, Californians elected a groper because it seems easier to forgive a groper than a car thief... One member called another member euridte and most everyone else scratched their asses and yawned.

Theron was pleased that no one used the "F" word, which in posts past has wrankled the feint of heart causing them to blush and swoon.

So there it is in a nutshell...one proponent is eagerly awaiting a car to play Shirley Mulldowney and wants to waive his slip in the air... One member/poster is anxious to see if there is a bigger bang for his buck with a new Type4 engine and yet another proponent is chuckling all the way to the bank...

Luxury seating is now available for Jim's hit on the streets of OKC.
Ahhh, life is good! Nutzzz anyone?

I said it earlier but what the heck. I think it would be great if both CB Performance and Massive TIV were to become sponsors of this site, as they are on other Vw sites.

And while I am up on the soap box some of you other non-donating members ought to consider ponying up, too. The site here keeps getting better and its upkeep should be shared.
I am in the unusual position of having a Raby 2165 cc type 1. I don't know who to root for in this feud . Being in this unusual position doesn't allow me to express righteous indignation about type 1 vs. Raby type 4. I am further handicapped because I have interacted with both GB and Jake and have found them both to be knowledgable and generous with their time and expertise and very different from their online personalities. So I need advice from the forum as to which side I should be on so I can get really mad. Thanks in advance for the help
