Mickey, here is what you say you know "All I know is George had a really cool speedster"

The reason you don't know the rest is that only a few of us were given extra information and status via private email. George had learned that the free exchange of information on a site like this was not truley possible. Too often the information was misused, misunderstood, or even worse was intentionally used inappropriately by others.

It's why you may get the impression that there are magic cars out there that have no problems and never need repair. When in reality all cars of this nature have some issues that the owner has to work through in the beginning. George was in the process of working through some of the issues, when unfortunately he died.

I had many private emails with George, which may come as a surprise to some of the senior members here, but he was a direct and honest man that made very few posts in the end because of what he had learned from the past.
OK, Jim, here goes....The clowns that seem to have the most problems with their speedsters are the ones who think they are mechanics, and of course aren't.....and shouldn't be messing with them.....
I know my limitations, so I have a good mechanic...and no problems....And another thing, If you stick with a reasonable size motor, your problems deminish also...George apparently liked living on the edge, and I respect that, as long as you have the pockerbook to back it up....
Oh, and Jim....Fix this....
Onership of a Speedster and for that matter, any hand crafted vehicle is a continual rolling hobby that is never quite done to the owners likeing. Manufactures should advise a potential buyer of this and avoid a possible misconception of "just get in and drive it". Most of us know these cars are one off's and need constant tweaking. It can easily become an addiction.
Problems that exceed their ability can almost always be resolved by inquiring on either of the groups. While writing a check for work done by others is easy to do, there's nothing like standing back and admiring your own work and wearing a SEG while doing so.I applaud anyone that has the initiative to attempt their own repair work or upgrades.
Again I'm confused. I never said or implied I was under the impression there are "magic cars" out there that never need fixing. I've had my car for a year and a half and all I've done is repair and fix the thing, for Gods sake I've become pretty good friends with my mechanic now! So, if I gave the impression of something else forgive me. I just got lost in all the elusive George Brown stuff with people bickering over old engines and what was said about this and that, I still don't nderstand what the big deal is? From an outsider looking in and from what I can piece together I'd say it was George who made his enimies and created controversy. A little decorum can go a long way and he seemed to piss alot of people off (I think I would have liked him). And as for his car - I'm with Vince and whoever else who believes that if you got the money then who am I to tell you how to spend it?
Oh jeez Lane, I didn't mean your comments, or anyone's for that matter, offended me. I wasn't trying to come across as pissed or anything, I'm not pissed at all, just confused. I still don't get it all, I figure it's just because I'm a newbie, or new enough to not have been around for the George thing, so I'll just bow out and stop trying to make sense of any of it. But no need to apologize, I'm good, es cool mehn, weez all good.......
