I finally pulled the trigger! This is my new ride - a TAG Rotax 125, watercooled, electric start bad ass little go kart. I'll spare you all the gory details of the days events but it was a day from hell that ended up with me getting what seems will be a fun little toy, which I guess is all that matters.

Cory,
I was within spitting distance of a cell tower but was having a heck of time getting messages and dropped calls. The day started at 7:30 am and I'm just home at 11pm. Needless to say it didn't go as planned - I'll call you tomorrow and explain. I did get a message late that some asian fellow is coming to the bistro monday night (ha)! I'll call you in the am.

My dad and I used to race karts when I was in high school. We did mostly enduro stuff b/c the old man couldn't handle sprint races. It was a blast heading down a straight at 125+ with your butt 2 inches off the ground. I flipped one at Mid-Ohio a few years back and slid down the track at about 60 mph. The racing suit quickly wore out and my skin took the balance of the beating. That was a great phone call home to mom from the hospital...

What are you planning on doing with it? If nothing else, if you show up to SCCA Solo-cross events, you'll embarass plenty of people who have dumped tons of money into their race cars.

OK, that's the fastest thing I've ever driven! Oh my GOD, that little kart is absolutely stuck to the ground! I finally got it up and running about 8:30pm so my buddy (mechanic) and I took it to the local high school parking lot and went to town. I had it flying and no matter how hard I tried I couldn't get it to let go. Granted, I was probably only doing 60mph but man it was tight!
I still have some tuning issues, getting it dialed in with fuel mixture, brakes etc... And I'm definately gonna have to gear it for lower end to auto x it. So if you all don't hear from me for a while you'll know where I am - either in jail because the cops sealed off the high school parking lot and took me in, or at the shop working on my new rocket!
And in the spirit of Cory and the Hoopty - any and all are welcome to take it for a spin. I guarantee it is the funnest, fastest, quickest thing you will ever drive!

Oh, and Vince, no, it's not a shifter. It's a TAG (touch and go) 125cc with dual front discs and single rear so it's very similar to a shifter in the set-up/chassis except it doesn't shift. I'm told it'll do around 105mph on the staights! I'll let ya know.

Jim (my new best friend),
I'll bring it to Carlisle next year so you can tear it up!

Lambros,
Thanks for the advice, but what is this thing you speak of, "lifting"? (heh heh)
Mickey,

All I can say is: I told you so. It is truly amazing what 2" off the ground feels like. I think also having nothing, or almost nothing, out in front, and being able to see everything contributes mightily to the pucker factor. I am delighted to hear you made this happen, and hope to H--- you keep all your skin. When (If??) you ever get back in your Speedster, AND I take delivery of mine, I will look fwd to some cruises. saw the pictures from recent adventures, and just can't wait 'til I can join in. You were at Carlisle?? Can't believe we missed introductions -?- Guess I can blame that on Cory.
I used to fly ultralights, and I agree that 2 strokes are great, but they just don't give you much warning when there is something wrong... they either run perfectly or you are landing in silence... I won't ever put my butt in a 2 stroke powered flying machine again..ever. Saying that, I had an RZ350 when I was a punk and it was the most badass bike at my high school but you could never leave without everybody knowing you did so.. lol.

James
Yeah, 2 strokes are pretty sweet. My buddy had an RD400 that was absolutely sick, I loved that bike! I downloaded the manual for my engine (Rotax 125) and it's got some great tuning info in it. I can't wait to tinker around with this thing. I'll take it easy at first but then I see myself going crazy. I have a somewhat dated data acquisition system so first on the list is a new one so that I can really get nitty gritty when the time comes. I'm hoping to get to the track the weekend of June 9-10 but with the new restaurant opening this weekend that might be a stretch but definitely the end of June at Summit Point, barring any unforeseen incidents.
Mickey-

While we're agreeing to disagree, here's something we agree on 100%. I had an '84 Yamaha RZ350 (water cooled- and the last of the street legal 2 strokes) I rebuilt from the ground up-- every bolt, every nut. I had a set of pipes for it, and I drilled out the idle mixture caps. I put a set of Weisco pistons in it (traded them for an A/C unit), and....

Wow. I've had a lot of bikes over the years... the high-water mark should've been the '73 Z1 900-- but this bike was stupid-fast, and very light in the front end. 60 mph, third gear wheel in the sky fast. Arrest-me-please fast.

I sold that bike to a friend to buy a bedroom furniture set. This thread has me thinking that it should end up back in my garage, somehow.
