Call it a hunch, but I'm guessing with a little resto (OK mabe a lot of restoration) that '53 bent window will someday be in the $250K range.

I remember saying (back in 1973) the same things posted on this thread about a '58 Carrera that I passed on buying at $1,500 because it was a little rough (paint job, torn interior). I bought a '61 Super 90 instead at $1,200. What was the last price for a nicely sorted '58 Carrrera?
Jim,

I passed on a 58 Carrera in '69 for $ 400. It needed a transaxle and a new top( snow was piling up on the seats), but otherwise was running and the boday was dent-free. I bought a beat up '58 A coupe instead because I didn't want to freeze in a convertible! How dumb was THAT?!
You know what - did you guys read the whole ad? The seller says original paint, etc. I sure looks like a white spray over an original red paint job to me. I see red, grey primer, then white...

What do you guys think?

Don't misunderstand, this is still worth a fortune and two layers of paint is irrelevant with the type of resto work (rusto?) that will surely be done on this car...

If this is unmolested than I better get a dictionary and look up the word, because it looks very molested to me. You might tow this thing to Pebble beach in August and give someone a hard on, but the dude better have a lot of buckaroonies....
The idiot that stored this thig 50 years ago should be shot. I give him credit for thinking one day it would be worth a lot on money, but his choice of storage left a little to be decided
Here is one that looks like it might have been properly stored http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=718546 too bad it is not a cab.....still a very nice car

And Vince, the other one is unmolested just like the girl I dated in high school who was only twice removed from virginity, once by the football team and once by the basketball team......
