Looks like the Azul One will be my transport for a while. Carey is busy getting ready for the SEMA show and will attend through mid-November. If Winter comes can Spring be far behind? Note the real windows to keep out the rain!
Azul One was the centerfold for " Cars of James Bond" a magazine out of the UK.

Lafers are cool. I wonder this, though: how does that tall looking window fit inside that short looking door?
Eric,
The side windows slide up and down into the doors, but the "down" window stands about 5/6inches above the top sill. However, each side window and rear side window is totally removable when desired. Don't get caught without them in a rain!!! It is a great driver and lots of fun. My wife prefers the Lafer over the Beck for comfort.

Boy, that car's neat. What are the major differences between it and the MGTDs we see from time to time?
Cory,
The MP Lafer was made in Brazil starting around 1975. The production run was only 4000 and only 1000 or so were exported out of Brazil. The Lafers were produced in two models; the MP (Moveious Patentio or Patented Furniture) and the TI (Tourist International)
My MP was autographed by the designer and manufacturer Percival Lafer during a furniture show at High Point, NC, a couple of years ago. This NOT a kit car or replica per Percival "it is my car"! The Lafer is bigger than an MG TD, flat four powered and totally a one piece fiberglass body. The boot is in the front and the bonnet is in the rear. One can walk up the wings! Don't try it...they are painted with 11 coats of nitrocellulose lacquer! The interior is leather while the top door sills, dash and steering wheel are rose wood! The wood used around the tub top (top fastening pieces) are teak. The top boot cover is is also leather.
I'll be glad to send you a copy of a magazine article about these marvelous vehicles. "This is the Car too Own" in Brazil.

Tail lights are unique. The doors open "backwards"--that is, they're not suicide doors like the TDs and most TD replicas had. And the roll-up windows, of course.
Eric,
Good observation.

I should add that The MP Lafers were manufactured to DOT regulations enforce at the time.

Thanks for the background. Very nice-looking car!
A pleasure to drive, I assume?
It can't have many blind spots.

No blind spots. These are great little machines. This one is my wife's favorite ride! The seats are a lot more seat than the Beck buckets. The thing gets a little light in the front...wind lift from under the high flaring wings.
I plan to do some changes on Azul One while Carey takes care of Merlot. I plan on adding dual Scat carbs, dog-house air shroud,VW's high performance exhaust system and the CB Performance's oil sump Maxi filter kit that mounts to the oil pan. .

Toss a couple of bricks in the trunk while you're working on it. Maybe that'll help the lift problem.
Or you could just load it up with some of your moonshine. You'd have to refill fairly often, tho'.

Prefer the fruit jar method, but then thar thin's broke! Better pour in the fuel tank. Pure Ethanol.
