Boy........I'd look good in that one!  I just need a buyer for my '64 Chapron Citroen convertible & I'm there.  I'm showing it at car week during Pebble Beach this year.  Last year I did the Pacific Grove Rally with Troy who was driving his wide body Speedster..........this year I'm on the field at Concours Italiano.  Any Chapron collectors out there?

I also have a very nice Citroen 2CV Truckette if anyone is interested ....... that would make a good down payment.  I've been trying to figure out how to pull this off since Max advertised it here awhile back.  It is a beautiful IM!

It really depends on what you want, I understand your logic, but its not all about the return on the investment. The cost of a real Speedster in nice condition being 150k & up makes this I.M. and those like it a great bargain. I've owned 4 Real Speedsters ,all of which were outstanding examples and this Replica of Intermecannica's is by far the most fun of all, & the build quality is the best of the breed.  I believe the build of a new I.M. like the one I'm offering makes this a very attractive buy. It runs better than any real 356 I've owned & I've had at least 35 in my lifetime. Pat Downs who built this engine say's 100k on the engine should be expected if properly maintained & this one has been . I'm surprised at the negative remarks , especially from a site dedicated to Replica's..  Have you priced a new I.M. lately.....Where can you have more fun, & get this kind of quality for 45k !!!

Gramma used to say, that everybody's entitled to their own opinion. You're certainly entitled to one as well.

... but why stop there? $50K will buy a lot of other things as well. A new Corvette. A year off work. A house in the hood. A minor surgery (and maybe even a couple of days as an inpatient). A year at an Ivy League school (as long as you live with mom and dad)

... or maybe a guy's dream car. It's not your dream, and that's cool-- but perhaps there's a guy or two who wants an elemental car that's 1/3 the price of an equivalent (and complete) steel car, one that will never rust, has better underpinnings, is completely turn-key, and uses parts that cost 1/2 the equivalent Porsche parts. Something that makes 2x the power of an original, has disc brakes all around, as looks fast just sitting there. Something he can work on himself. Something that nobody else has. Perhaps this hypothetical guy actually wants to use his car, and couldn't care less about impressing other people with a "real" car that he can't (or won't) drive. Maybe he doesn't care about investment value, because he wants to actually DRIVE his car and doesn't plan to sell it.

But that's just my opinion.

I agree that $50K may not make sense for Zumwoll.  However, almost all of us have some investment knowledge.  That's how we funded our replicas.  If my replica doesn't outperform the original, then I have failed in my mission to have a vehicle that takes me back to my youth, but does so with a performance that the original can't hope to equal.

For many of us, it's not a choice of replica vs. investment.  I still need to think about how I will pay for things I am passionate about.  I have also accepted the fact that my replica is not a good investment choice.  Fortunately, at this stage in my life, return on the dollar is not at at the top of my replica concerns.  Performance, safety, and reliability are the important issues for me with my replica.  That's what works for me at present.  I'm not saying that's what will work for you.  Let's enjoy what we have and drive 'em like we stole 'em.

"Performance, safety and reliability"  Jim hit the nail on the head.  I am proud to say that at this time my VS has achieved all these parameters in spades.

Jim left out "return on investment"---shows how smart he is!  I'd leave it out too as I'll never see the $$$ back I have in my car---but I didn't ever look at it as an investment.  If you want to ask about investment in fun, then you have a point!

Boy what did I start?!  I had an IM.  It was gorgeous and it was all the outlaw speedsters at The Campout that prompted me to find one.  The diff is that it cost less than $20k.  The only reason I sold it was that I drove over the Cascades quite a bit and was a little unnerving trying to pass RVs etc.  ANd of course no airbags etc.  I do not have an unlimited budget so I had to sell it in order to buy my 993.  Now I have a few bucks in the budget and bought my CMC on  Flea Bay.  I think I got screwed but what is new going that route.  I thought I would be finished with it in May and now I am just hoping to have it ready for Hot August Nights.  And if it satisfies me I will keep it and save up for a vintage coupe like the beauty above.  Last thought is that I would not own a legit Speedster.  Driving a $200k piece of rolling real estate makes no sense to me.  But I am not a multi millionaire.  My CFP took care of that.  He goes on trial in Eugene OR sept 19.  BTW I enjoy hanging with other PorschePhiles and my region of PCA does not allow clones in their events even tho I am a legit member.  In Eugene I could take it on Arrive and Drives.
