I figure this is the best spot as any to inquire about possible purchase inquiries..

I prefer a silver exterior with black interior. Second choice would be Red exterior with black interior.

Prefer to be a little zippy, so greater than 1600cc

Still not sold on the brand but something about the Becks tells me they handle a bit better than one with a VW pan. Would still go either way.

Looking to spend up to $20k (give or take)

Here's one in Orange County CA.

Is this a Vintage Speedster?  I'm kinda liking the racing hump but had no idea they offered that?

The first one I know...It belonged to a guy name David Salvato in Long Beach, he was a member here one time, it was a great tub back then but it's got 13K miles now....

I can't quote price, but a new tub from Vintage is in the 25K neighborhood, so do the math...

The second tub is also a vintage, and not worth the money either...

the IM has that patina thing going on, and might be worth the money, but still a stretch....

Go to Vintage & talk to Kirk....

Hello...(who ever you are :-) ) The last one I can comment on and it's worth no where near $13,500. I bought an older IM in late 2010 for $6500 and drove it from

Boise, Idaho to Ottawa Canada and all it needed was new tires. That yellow car might be worth $5K as is and would make a real nice platform for a $7K-$8K refit including a good Subaru engine setup. Avoid this one if you don't like working on cars. YMMV

Thank you for your insight.

What (in your opinion) do you think the silver one is worth? If he's negotiable, I would deal.  The engine's mileage is not a big deal to me as the rebuilds are fairly cheap on the VW's.  I suppose a chassis with that kind of mileage is another story.  What would you pay for it?

Sorry.. yes, I am new here and in love with the car.  I'm sort of a research monkey and like to be sure and get the opinions of those in the know (you guys).

Thanks for your input on the yellow one, I was just throwing it out there as I keep reading about the IM and how everyone wants one.  Just getting an idea of what the older ones are worth.

Thanks

The tube-framed IMs are great vehicles, with the more recent ones being seriously upscale.  That yellow one is an early pan-based car, and is really nothing special.  Dave Stroud is right about its value.  Newer used IMs can go for $30k+ to more than double that, but they are very different cars.

I am understandably biased toward Becks.  If you're looking for a traditional-bodied Speedster, check out Tom Dewalt's car in this forum.  I think he's got it priced very fairly.

I was thinking that as well. A Becks style would be much more difficult for sure as it's not going to be registered as a VW.

Luckily it seems that there are a few Speedsters here and there in So. CA.

Just have to wait for the right one to come along.

I look forward to checking this one out on Sunday.

What "should" this car be worth?

I fear a $15k offer would be low-ball for what he is asking but $19k seems way high for an older VS build with such high mileage.

but 16K for a tub with that mileage would be my max, provided everything is in good condition....My motor guy is in torrance...Powerhaus...look him up...name is John....

Ah yes... I have been there!

In fact, my second (real job) during high school (Torrance High) was across the way at Hot Rod Performance.  I worked there before the move back when they were on Sepulveda (where the Boys/Girls club is now).  I used to build high perf. engines, install Nitrous systems etc.  Seems they sell race gas and nitrous these days more than anything.

I would still like to shoot the **** with ya if you have time.  You gonna be around this Friday?

Yep, met Vince Thursday night. My girlfriend and I went over and talked for an hour or so.  Hell, we may even show up to the party on the 14

And your girlfriend left unmolested?

Vince must be under the weather!

I went and looked at the Silver one on Craigslist (http://orangecounty.craigslist.../cto/3086194661.html)

Nice car, drove great and was solid.  The seller wouldn't budge under $18k.

Said he might throw it on eBay.

If it's still around in a week or so, I'll throw another email his way.

In the meantime, if anyone out there knows of a Silver / Black tub for sale, I'll give ya a free pass at hitting on my GF at the pool party
