Since October, I've been emailing a guy named Pete from New York City about a what he claimed was his unassembled CMC speedster in good condition that had sat since 1999 when he purchased it from the band of fools in Florida.

...Saturday 6:30 AM, " Gumball ".

Rocky and I headed out from his place in the Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania to a Jamaican neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York to discover what was possibly to be, the real deal of my build career. Off we go crossing NJ through the Holland Tunnel, cruise through China Town and over the Manhattan Bridge....what a sea of misfits.

The one way street had no room to pull over so Rocky bails out of my pick up and I head around the block and to come back and drop anchor in front of a fire plug and find Rocky saying "... this is da' place" . I think out loud.... you got to be frigg'n kidding me" as the alley between the two row houses was barely seven feet wide and packed with tired appliances and a clapped out old Dodge Caravan. We meet Pete the Speedster guy and about half a dozen local Jamaicans milling about. Rocky and I trudge to the rear of a row house and found the CMC body mostly in tack under a blue tarp missing only the engine deck lid. The rest of the speedster's components we physically dug out of a old door less two car garage that was a foot deep collection of old construction materials. Ninety minutes later we had uncovered all of the CMC treasure we were going to find and to our surprise, nothing was rusted or consumed by mice or rats
....I figured aloud that these creatures had a better venue in the neighborhood houses. Next step was to temp hire four local Jamaicans to rid the alley of the appliances and Caravan then tote the speedster body down the seven foot wide alley humping it onto my single car trailer.... twenty bucks later, the deed was done.

Speedster build project #18 is now back in PA. and in my possession and the inventory is done. The the windshield, deck lid and some misc hardware are missing. I'll be searching for some of these parts and will have some others that I'll not be using available.

So maybe THIS time it be the last one, I'm just say'n.
Did I mention that I paid... $1,150 ~ ~Alan

it makes me angry..... not that you found a bargain and had to rub it in and tell every one about.... more that you have so many foreigners living there, Jamaican, Cubans, Arabs etc etc...Our solders fight shoulder to shoulder, we see eye to eye with you guys..yet we Aussies can only come and visit your fair county for a few months at a time, they wont let us live there... grumble grumble....

PS: and I have a speedster that should count for something hay ?
Alan Im tempted to ask you to find me a damaged spyder that I can turn into a gullwing fastback coupe.. My criterea ,a small compact car, easy to get in, and out of. that can serve as a daily driver when done. I will sell my 72 automatic superbeetle when its complete.

With that said the back half of the car can have problems. I would prefer a Beck ,,and can repair a bent frame.. with your scavager finding skills,, I might have a chance at this one last build....

Please keep me in mind If something were to come along Dirt cheap that must still have a active title.. I will be willig to pay a reasonable finders fee..Also..
This "speedster season" I decided to take it slow with no deadlines what so ever i.e. not disappearing into the shop, no more 14 hour days.
I just finished Kim's Miata rehab that only took 35 hours tops.
We did paint, tires, new top and a stainless double hoop roll bar.
I'll have three speedsters here in various stages in the next few weeks then decide what gets done with what... just like old times.
