I got Speedy painted at the local Maaco (Fountain Valley, CA) and they did a decent job changing the color from red to black and fixing fiberglass holes and such. Oops - forgot to paint the insides of the bumper but "I'll pick those up at the end of the week" so I could take the car home for interior jobs.

No call for a week.

I called them the following week and no answer, no message machine, and forwarded phone to Maaco corporate so I thought I'd drive by and get them. When I arrived, the whole place was cleaned out - no offices, no tools - just an empty warehouse! GONE! Some cleanup guys there told me a lady came in earlier screaming that she left her Porsche there the week before and now it's gone too.

Of course I called the cops - they say it's a civil matter, take it up with Maaco corporate but they can't find the manager, Tom Pace. Maaco customer service does everything but that. I've tried the post office, EPA, Bureau of Automotive Repairs and several internet searches to find this guy with no luck.

So I'm headed to small claims court with a pretty good case against Maaco (they'll say "it's a franchise, we're not responsible") as I see it. All receipts in order and bumpers documented as a "to do" items.

In the mean time, I need some bumpers. I may get reimbursed by Maaco and then again it may take awhile to process all that. I'm near Kirk at VS and if I get a check from Maaco I'll buy new ones, but sure would be nice to get a set from someone that has a pair they don't need for cheap(er).

Jarco - I lost my bumpers at the paint shop, too. That shop's still in business. They said they fired the painter, and that he must have thrown them away.
Paul's Auto Body, Millersville, MD. They did say they'd make good though, and when I decide to bring the Hoopty in for a re-shoot, it'll be a better treatment; triple/triple base and clear for $1K.
The last paint job was $3,200.
That's $2,200 worth of PR they'll get for fixing their f-up. And hey, if I still had bumpers, I wouldn't have the bad mofo Outlaw I have now.

Good luck with that guy. If he's moved anywhere near me, I'll knock him down for you.

know how you feel dropped off both my Triton and a hard tailed chop twenty years ago for a service and a rewire and went off for a three month tour came back on r and r to find the shop had gone bust both my bikes had gone west 10k lost never did get the owner or the bikes back only insured the Triton
If not, tell me if you are paying for them, or if you get them awarded in small claims court. I know they won't be sold fast, but I do have them. I am sure that small claims court will award you the damages for lost merchandise. You paid a price, so the service was professional and not complementary.
