This is a great thread every year. Figured I'd start the 2008 idiot-proof-your-car with this one: brake fluid.
I was puttering around the car today, still not driving because I'm on good medication, when I noticed the brake fluid reservoir had about half the fluid it should on one side and no fluid at all on the other.
Might want to have a look-see.

If you still have rubber gas lines, check each separate line to be sure they are all still soft and pliable. Don't forget those up front, coming out of the gas tank. Any evidence of hardening or stifness - time to replace.

Is the gas tank vent line still soft or is it cracked and will emit fumes in unwanted places?

How did the gas filters look? Time to replace?
If you are lucky enough to have map pockets in the doors, gingerly reach down in there and remove any left-over candy or gum that has been there since last October and replace it with new candy or gum for this season.....

Don't bother looking under the seats yet - wait until things dry out a bit more before looking under there (trust me on this...)
