Hi all,

This is going to be my first summer with a speedster (very excited by the way) & I am thinking about going to make the 4+ hour trip to Carlisle. I just wanted to know what to expect as far as atmosphere, crowd etc. If I do go, I will probably be going alone. At 25 years of age, do you think I will be able to blend in with the crowd & have a good time? Thanks for helping.

David,

Last year 45 Speedsters (and Cabriolets) showed up at Carlisle plus alot of people who owned one but did not bring it in addition to alot of lookers. 99% of these people never met each other in person before, only communicated through this website or were people I met in my travels to meets, racing venues, etc. To say everyone got along and had a great time would probably be an understatement. Leading up to Carlisle I have a huge email distribution list and send out periodic updates on whats going on so perhaps I should add you to that list?

There are all ages and plenty of things to do and see all weekend. Depending on when you arrive there are a couple of cruises, two evening dinners, a swap meet, a variety of replicas and vendors, three of the major Speedster manufacturers/builders, a wine tasting, free seminars, our own raffle, Speedster t-shirts, a car drawing and much more. Check out the other threads in the Events category for more of what is happening and the schedule. We'll have a large tent pitched in the Speedster area and hope to have a couple of member gatherings to meet and talk with everyone.

You also might be able to get in touch with others coming from your direction and caravan together.

If you are staying overnight, don't delay getting a hotel room as they go FAST. Stop by speedsterseast.home.att.net for more details. It's gonna be big. Other questions?

Bruce,

You forgot about the SOC Go-Cart Races. I've been waiting a year for a re-match!

David,

If you like looking at and talking about these cars, eating good food, drinking fine ale, meeting interesting people of increadably varied backgrounds you will have a blast.

David,

You're ahead of me in that you have a Speedster, and seriously I'm envious. I used to have an MG and attended a lot of British car events with it. That is one of the best part about having a special interest car. I've been corresponding with the folks on this site and they've made me feel incredibly welcome even though I'm not yet an owner. If you have a car, come and bring it. You'll have a heck of a good time. If these folks are as much fun in person as they have been over the internet this is gonna be a great weekend!
