As I usually do, I'll spend Thursday evening with my out-laws in Asheville, meet Tom for lunch, and drive in on Friday.

John,
With the addition of the new engine in my Vintage Speedy, the gas stops will be very important. Sandy and I are in for a second year. The people are great and the scenic touring is just incredible.
Let's get those dinner plans organized so we don

Cindy & I have returned from three weeks in Namibia, Botswana, Zambia & South Africa. Eighteen flights was quite tiring, but we loved the short hop on the Bell Longranger. I hope to be able to bring pictures with me to share in October.
Thanx again to Hoss for researching great roads for this fall's outing. I sincerely urge everyone who is planning on attending to please contact the Talley Ho Inn ASAP to secure your reservation.
(see earlier posts for more info)
Hoss is right. If all of this rain will stop, we are going to have fabulous fall color in the smokies.

Sir Hoss.....Fontana village is located very close to Fontana Dam....
If memory serves me, this was the second tallest dam built by the Tenn. Valley Auth..... Impressive in it's own right....Possibly a photo op????

A photo op stop at the dam will be looked into when I visit the village, probably next week. Thanks for pointing this out, Sir Leon.

Pete and Sean are local, as I am, and will not need reservations.
My car will not be ready for the Tail of the Dragon run. I don't even know if it will be ready by Christmas or even Valentines Day - maybe the 4th of July if we're lucky. Without a car we would prefer to wait until next years event and do it right. In December Steve made it sound like we would have the car in time for the Dragon and he suggested that we join in the fun and meet everyone. But, honestly, without our own car it just wouldn't be the same experience for us. We'll just wait until 2010 and (hopefully) we can do it the right way. We're anxious to get to know everyone but without a car we'd feel like nudists at a fashion show.
...... nudists at a fashion show....
Still show up, meet the speedster crew and enjoy the ride in whatever you're driving. ~Alan

Douglas - FWIW I'd take DrClock's suggestion to join the cruise anyway. There's always an SOCer (or two or three) who doesn't have their car with them at a given event for some reason or another but still show up for the comraderie. You'll meet a great group of folks, you'll have fun doing the route and the event will help you keep your eye on the prize (your SAS in production)!
...I'm just saying...
...I'm just saying...
Speaking of showing up, Alan, are you and some of the northerners gonna come down to show us southerners how to drive?
Douglas, I didn't go to Carlisle in 2004 for the very reason that you say you are not coming to the Dragon run this year. I've been kicking myself ever since. Please consider the good advice that these guys are giving you. You won't regret it.
Douglas--do reconsider the Tail Of The Dragon. That's my son, Russ and my grandson, Sean in the red VW and they had a blast. This fall they're returning in a rebuilt 914 thar Russ is working on now.
Don't sweat the car. Plus you will definitely get some ideas for your own car---guaranteed. You are very welcome!----Jack
Thanks for the encouragement. I'll think about it. If SAS has anything to look at (regarding my car) around that time I'd consider making the trip. As far as I know there is nothing to look at right now and I don't really want to drive 800 miles in October if there still is nothing to look at.
Douglass......Join in the fun.....Besides, I've never seen a nudist at a fashion show.......Is this gonna be a "Fashion Show"???? Where is my Thorazine?????
...where are your pants??!!

Doug,
Please do join us. I am completly "between speedsters". I will be driving BIGBIRD, which is a 2008 C4S Cab. As I did in April with Lane & Aaron, I will be bringing up the rear.
FYI: At the Monterey Historics in 1995, I was in a rented Mustang convertible. My brother-in-law was with the SCOCAL Miata club, and they were forming up on Saturday AM to drive from Salinas to Laguna Seca. As I tried to keep my car in the rear of the procession, I heard one woman exclaim, "Well, I'm not getting in line behind a Mustang !" I stayed at the back, but within 1/2 mile our procession was heavily contaminated with contractor's vans & farm worker's trucks. So there.
Please do come. Its about meeting friends of similar interest (beer). The cars are simply nice props.

Whaddaya mean"friends"? I come for the cars. I don't even like you people.
We are booked for the 15th thru the 18th. At this point I have no idea what we may be traveling in or with...Hopefully pulling the Speedie as my wife refuses any trip longer than 300 miles and we are still waiting on a painter to say go. No matter count 2 more in

John--many thanks to you for pulling this event together! We can't wait!---Jack
Didn't mean to leave out Tom Raymond!
We are heading over a day early to see the sights and take another run at that highly touted Pizza restaurant in that wierd residential neighborhood! NOT.---Jack

HAH! I think that's gonna be our signature screw-up for a while.
Pizza restaurant? Details please, this is a story I haven't heard. If you want decent pizza, you need to go to Uno in Maryville. I hope that isn't the one you meant.
Nope. This was a place the folks at the hotel recommended. Turned out to be someone's house back up a 1-lane road where they made pizzas for catering, not a restaurant.
"Signature screw up"---I laughed out loud. Did you ever see a bunch of Speedsters back up so fast and get the hell outta someplace??
Trouble is that we all got seperated in the craziness.

For pizza, Chicago Uno, Maryville. OK? I may have to board my dog to do this with you guys, but I will lead the way on Saturday night if Pizza is your desire.

Friday October 16 diversion:
For those amongst us whom are"allowed" to gaze upon other marques, the 32nd annual Corvette Expo will be kicking off in Seiverville, TN (only 20 miles from our headquarters at the Taley Ho Inn). This event will be at the Seiverville Events Center, www.corvetteexpo.com.
Lane, We need to pay this a visit our our friday run.

Hmmm... Getting into and out of Sevierville can be a challenge.
As an alterntive, we can do the Pizza run to Maryville on Friday night, also about a 20 minute run from the Talley Ho and then proceed to the Foothills Mall for their weekly car show. This is only about a five minute drive from Uno (the pizza place) and I'm sure the gathered multitudes would love to see a bunch of cars like ours arriving together. Parking is not a problem there.
I had originally thought that we would do the Pizza run at the tail of the Tail, so to speak, but this might be even better. What do you Dragon Slayers think?

Hoss we are coming from afar so will allow the Ride Meisters decide. As long as I can get gas every 125 miles or so I'll tag along. A group of 356's pulling up to a car show should be a hoot..
Does anyone remember 2 buck Chuck? got a part of a case we can bring along.

On Friday night of the First Annual SOC Dragon Run weekend, Cory and I were having dinner with Tom Raymond and his wife at the Cracker Barrel in Bristol ... I'm not saying, I'm just saying.
