It's got to be even MORE dangerous for the medics.
I can't even imagine how hard that must be, even with lights and sirens, to negotiate that stretch while bikers are tearing it up.
It's probably a pretty miserable job, too. The wrecks can't be pretty -- which is actually GOOD for morale -- but trying to find a banged up motorcyclist on that 11-mile trek is probably mentally exhaustive. My heart goes out to those guys.
Tennessee will probably make them reverse that decision though. That's what Maryland would almost certainly do.
Cory,

This is on the North Carolina side. Of course, this is a county money thing. Swain county has said that it will position an EMS vehicle on the Graham county side for this Labor Day weekend. Graham County has the quicker entrance.

I've observed bikes cutting the corner apex...off they go over and down into the woods.
Just a Caution WARNING
The closest medical EMS on the Tail has indicated that they will no longer provide service the Dragon any longer. The Dragon is located in Swain County and the powers at be have been told that the closest provider (Graham County?) WILL NO LONGER PROVIDE service to the Tail.
Swain County has said that an EMS unit will be posted on the Graham County side for this Labor Day Weekend.

There have been 4 deaths so far this year. Motorcyclist are very upset. The thrill is hard to resist, I know. All should be very cautious this year. I have driven both the Tail and Cherohala way,way too FAST!

This tidbit was on last night's news...Channel 13, Asheville, NC.
Lane,
Not sure of anything. We've not had any guests since the second week in July! I am scheduled for eye surgery on 12 October. My eye lids are covering half of my pupils and there are no tendons along the inside of my nose as should be in the lids. I can't see overhead, just a long shadow above when looking forward...sorta like looking through ones eye brows.

I've also been told that my left knee is now bone on bone. That is an easy knee replacement just like the right knee! So, both knees will match! Remember this old age stuff ain't for sissies! I need to get all this done before our Marxist government sends me for a death consult. Boy, what a year! Rotator cuff repair, eye lift, and now told that the left knee needs replacement. I feel that that I need to get this done before any Marxist Health plan is implemented.
Aaron,
I am in the same boat as you with the eye lid thing, this will need to get fixed sometime in the some what near future. Let me know how that goes.....
My good friend (59 y/o)had double knee replacement three years ago, the right one was successful with the left one becoming infected requiring surgery and... removal on the replacement knee, a rod was inserted.
A second replacement knee was done four six later and that too became infected and also removed. The leg in the knee area became so infected that it was amputated above the knee, he now has a custom replica knee....and 2/3 of a leg.

~Sorry for the thread hijack ~Alan
Allan,
I found all this stuff out in the last two weeks. I have a top notch surgeon that I know very well for the knee work. I feel I have to beat any government health care program implementation. Also hope that there is no problem with our ally Israel. The eye surgeon is named Goldstein! Very skilled and a great reputation.

"Gleichschaltung", will take up on anything goes.
Nolan, I will be publishing a schedule for Friday through Sunday in the next week to ten days. The outline will be published here, on Speedster shop and on the SAS owners' website. Also, on Friday night and Saturday morning of Dragon weekend, printed copies of the routes will be handed out to participants. Yep, I'm getting anxious too!
Johnm---as always, you are a great organizer--this schedule looks super!

Your schedule says that the event officially ends at 4pm Sunday.
Alice and I will stay over at Tally Ho for Sunday night and wonder if any others will too. Maybe we could set up a dinner Sunday night?

We are really looking forward to the T.O.D. event--last year was just sensational.

John--will you be posting a roster of attendees? Count me and Alice in plus Russ Cropsby and our grandson, Sean.

Thanks for your work on this, John.----Jack
Well Russ' yard looks like a wrecking yard with so many cars. He is finishing his frame off restoration of a '68 Bug and might drive that but I never know. Also his two 914's are now close to being one. He sold the red conv he drove to TOD plus one other bug, to the mayor of Wilson. Doesn't speak too wel of the mayor to be a bug nut does it?

Hoss should have emailed all registered that I have made Saturday night (10/17) reservations at the Trailhead Restaurant in Townsend, TN. This is the same steakhouse we have eaten at on Friday night. We have the upstairs room to ourselves.......so we can make as much noise as we want ! Reservation is for 7 PM
I've got my hotel for Friday and Saturday. Thanks for the emails and concern about it last week ... I've been UBER-busy the past few weeks!

I'm going to head SOUTH on Thursday, and stay the night in Bristol with the CO of Cory's reserve Navy unit. Then I'll relax and meet everyone on Friday.

Who-all's driving down from my neck of the woods, and when? I'm assuming I'll be a day ahead of most, but it's good to know who's going to be around ...
