Third brake light behind Grille

Don't know about any of the msg's  but it's pretty easy to install one yourself.  ion you're having your car built, ask to have an extra installed for this purpose.  I will be using 2 round LED'S that will look like "owl eye's" when lit......."00" !

However, they may interfere with my crazy assed air filter so between the two I will choose the air filter.  (Subaru engine)

I'm not sure exactly where I saw it(maybe FB) but there is a picture of me pulling into my trailer with the brakes on at Carlisle this year. I have a strip at the top of each grille facing rearward. It really enhances safety, and this is coming from someone who actually was rear ended in a Spyder.

If I had a choice between a comic engine accessory or getting hit, well, it's not really a choice.

I built some of my car, Greg did the frame,  body, and paint.

Every bulb on my car is LED, built in 2017. A 2 pin LED flasher was used and works perfectly. Backup light, instrument lighting,  headlights, turn signals, parking lights,  even my 3 light sequential RPM indicator. All LED.

I RTV'd a couple of these motorcycle LED strips into my engine lid. $10 for a pair, free shipping.

I wired both circuits in parallel, so there is no park/stop function. Stupid really, there is only one set of LEDs and the lower brightness is done with a resistor. Both left and right light strips are wired together and come on only to indicate brakes. They can be seen quite clearly in the daytime.

With our very low cars and even lower taillights I'll take any safety help I can get.

I boxed up my Dell 40's and sent them to Danny for rebuilding and basic setup. They came back perfect!

Then Stan came down for a vacation and tuned the car and it has never run better.

I'm fortunate to have connected with guys like them through this forum.

Yup. My next car will have a type 4 with Dells. I’m sure it will occasionally need some tinkering. Danny actually told me he’s thinking about moving to Virginia near “The back of the Dragon”. That would be sweet. I’ve been on that road many times. Much longer in length than the Tail of the Dragon with lots of switchbacks but also with long sweepers. It’s a fabulous road.

We can discuss a Tour de Smo' up there for '23.

If  my comic accessory and my 3rd stop light won't occupy the same area effectively then I may figure out a way to merge my 3rd light into or onto my roll bar without disturbing the integrity of the roll bar. I believe it would be a better and more visible place to have the 3rd light anyway.   I want to install a Lexan wind screen on the roll bar like I had on my Speedster.  It worked really well to keep the annoying wind off the back of my head.  I have been playing around with some plexiglass by having a friend try some real fine laser engraving on the surface. It's nearly invisible but when I introduce light from a red LED into the edge, it lights up the laser etching really bright !  Perhaps with little more playing around I can get it to say STOP in red  bright enough to be used as the 3rd stop light.  Got lots of time to play with these kinds of things these days. .......Bruce

Spyder are so low anyway. THEY ARE SCARY LOW ! Then again, that's a plus as well !

This is it. I think Danny is thinking about living in Galax. Don’t know if he’s been there yet. I usually stay in Marion Va. Nice boutique hotel there with a couple of decent restaurants. It’s at the southern end of the Back of the Dragon. It is in the middle of town and would not serve our purposes. Roads are not as nice as the Smokies. But nothing on the east coast is as nice as the Smokies.

I have read through the older posts about putting a third brake light behind the engine grille and wondered if anyone has come up with a better product or idea more recent than 10 years ago?

Is it common practice now days for the current manufacturers to include LED bulbs or lights in the turn key cars?

I bought a couple of super bright motorcycle LED lights and added suction cups to them so I can mount them to the back deck and remove them when I go to shows etc. I have a plug in the engine bay that I connect them to. As the car is low and people don't look at your brake lights, I find these are high and bright during the day.
