I think there will be a lot of SOC members offering their cars in the next Barret Jackson Auction. It looks like the auction pricing gets a bit "frothy". Could it be the Arizona Sun?

Isn't the mileage from Hawaiian Gardens to Phoenix roughly what the odometer had on it?

German engine! Since there aren't any new German cases being cast or built that means this engine is most likely a rebuilt (aka used) case doesn't it?

Is the trunk open, or is that the standard gap?

I'm betting the Camaros and the Corvettes are fetching less these days because of the big, fat V8s. Twice the fun, half the cylinders!
I wonder what I could get? USAA says I can have a nice '61 356SC if this one gets mangled and I survive. That's got to be at least 15 grand, huh?

(Disregard. It would have to be operational in order for it to get squished while I was driving. Knock on wood; I'd rather lose my clutch-foot than have anything bad happen to the Hoopty.)
Guys,
Don't forget Barrett-Jackson is a high dollar, high exposure auction. There are lots of people there with the $$ to go home with whatever they want.
I think this auction takes 8% from the seller and 8% from the buyer. That in itself makes the auction cars cost more $$.
It's pretty amazing to see what people are willing to pay for Street Rods and Stock collector cars when they go to that auction.

Boy... "Frothy" is the right word to describe the action at Barrett-Jackson.

I happened to be standing about thirty yards from the guy who bid $4 mil on the crazy GM bus this year, and the vibe under that tent was like a scene from Gladiator. You should see the look on a guy's face as he nods his head at 4-are you kidding me-million dollars...

I gave up even considering a bid on a replica Speedster after my first trip there. There's no way you can keep up with that kind of fever. But, boy, if you guys have never been out here for that event, you MUST treat yourself someday. You'll never forget it.

I was on a flight back home to Phoenix the week of the auction, and sat next to a fellow in his 70s from Nebraska who would be attending for the first time. He collects Hudsons and Packards, and he looked like he was on his way to the 1952 prom...
