This Face Book guy's fan shroud came loose so he say's....A lot of broken parts and I expressed concern for possible the alternator stand bits making their way past the louvered screen..... Imagine that noise!

I.... How?????

I’ve seen and read of broken or cracked alternator stands before. The aftermarket alternator stands are often made from cheap porous aluminum. Couple that with an unbalanced fan, overtightened or misaligned alternator, and poorly adjusted fan belt. Just add vibration and time to the recipe. Original stands are preferred for durability and strength.

I bet over tightening fan belt also contributed to the failure too. Aren't but a couple 10 mm bolts securing the fan shroud.
I love how the air cleaner bases/ hexbar pivots are bent and cracked.
I'd be willing to bet the alternator belt was WAY tight. And the fan probably unbalanced as well.
I'm betting on metal fatigue. Aluminum has a finite fatigue life despite stresses below the material's yield strength. And casting imperfections, such as porosity, will accelerate fatigue failure.
