Do you mind me asking what size tires you are running on your tub?

I'm at a 185/65/15 all around and it rubs a bit at full turn.  That's not the problem though, the problem is I want to lower my car about 2 inches more all around and I'm sure those 185's are going to give me a problem.

Here's the car in question.  What tire size you think I should go with and can I get away with just replacing the fronts? (would like to keep the 185's on the rear)

So far I've come up with the possibility of running a 145/65/15 or a 175/55/15, although the 175 might still rub.

i really would not recommend (if you are asking) going with an odd size tire like they run on beetles/ghias (like smart car tires or skinnies).  the 60 series profile is the perfect balance between low profile and period correct (and ride comfort).  too much or too little sidewall and it looks funny (IMO)

as for the width - i wanted 185.  195 or higher was not possible without even more suspension modifications (and i think mine is about as modified as they come on this site (narrowed front and rear, dual air/torsion suspension)

so - here is what i think you are asking...

P185/60R15 tires

lower it down a little more front and rear (and since I'm already giving unsolicited advice) your car would look awesome with no hub caps, painted silver drum skins and a medium size red Pegasus racing decal.  keep the trim and bumpers.  they add a period correct vintage feel (and yours are nice)

FYI - i went with Yokohama AVID TRZ tires after research on ratings and customer reviews on tirerack.com. they are WICKED tires.  i've had them on my past 3 cars.  well worth the $$ (and they are not that much more $ than others)

Thanks for the advice.  Do you think the P185/60R15 tires you are recommending will still rub in the front?  That's the problem I'm having now at full turn and am afraid it will get worse when I lower it if I don't go with a diff. tire size.  Or are you saying the 60 series tire (being shorter) should cure the problem when/if I lower it?

I will pip off the caps and take a look at it, I see what you're saying.... a little more "sporty"

Thanks!

No one will be able to tell you without seeing your car, so look at what part of the tire is hitting; is it the corner of the tread or down further on the sidewall? And a friend or 2 sitting on the fender to load the suspension helps.

I suggested in another thread that you get a used tire in the size you're considering (the thing doesn't have to have a lot of tread; just so long as it holds air) and fit it on the car. It won't cost much and you'll have a definitive answer. If you look around I'm sure there's a used tire dealer somewhere nearby. I still think that's your best bet....
