Hey guys, I'm having a problem with getting a smooth transition from the pedal. If I down shift say from third to second and get back on the throttle there is slack in the pedal and when you get back on it, it jerks. It's like the pedal gets stuck down a bit.
I was finally able to check out the results of my beam shimming for caster which seems much better but now its the herky jerky accelerator.

Your engine mounts are loose and the engine is moving forward when you down shift causing the slack in the accelerator pedal that you feel.
Hello Rusty, I have all new mounts.
Your engine is moving somewhere. I can't think of anything else that would cause slack on deceleration on down shifting like that... I mean like wait a minute... something else is starting to appear in the crystal balllllll.... Is your shroud loose?
How about disconnected, broken, or fatigued carb return springs?....or worn accelerator cable that's snagging somewhere. Is the tube in place where the cable routes through the fan shroud?
I'll back Rusty's thought..... If not a broken mount then possibly loose one... Slight chance it might be flexing housing / tube, or frayed cable, if multi-strand type...
Ok out from under the car again. The guide tube through the fan shroud was moving from pressure from the bowden tube so I put a hose clamp on the tube behind the shroud to keep it from moving.
To Rusty, new does not mean new anymore. My new tranny mount has started to come apart.The bonding of the rubber to the metal support is pulling apart with only 200 hundred miles on it whereas the 20 year old one was still together when I changed it out.
The two things together seem to be the culprit with bad cable response.
Anyone have thoughts on the best supplier for a new one?
I assume the one breaking up is probably urethane..... Good "German" rubber mounts are almost impossible to find.... Cpi1 and CB Perf used to carry good units....
This one was rubber b.ut has come unbonded
Carey Hines at Beck Speedsters told me that they are using "Rhino" urethane mounts now, so that's what I put in my car this spring.
Yes, they are stiffer than the stock (and very tired) rubber mounts in there before, but I'm confident that they'll not rip apart, and I can tolerate a little more engine noise (it's mostly masked by the exhaust note, anyway....)
